Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

My given name is Terrill. I was named after my mother’s only brother. I wish is was something more feminine, like Veronica, Gwendolyn or Tabitha.

My screen name is Deemunk. It is composed of the two names that my brother called my parents when he was little: Dee = Dad and Munk = Mom. We still call my mom Munk from time to time.

    Fabric Me!!!

My mom went to school with a brother and sister named Gabrielle & Gavin – she liked it so that’s what she named my brother and I.

With my kids, we gave each of them a biblical name and a family name… I actually blogged about it with the same title as this post back in 2011! :)

My name is Sara which means “Princess” in Hebrew, but my hippie parents had wanted to name me “Cosmo Shalimar”! True story! I even have a card in my baby book that says, “To: Cosmo Shalimar”, from one of their hippie friends. My great grandmother intervened and suggested Sarah, and then my parents dropped the “H”.

I love my name. It means “blossom,” but more than the meaning I love that, for most people I know, I’m the only Shokufeh in their life. I also have a great appreciation for the aesthetics of it, with the letters alternating between tall and short ;)

    FABRIC ME!

I am named after my father, Victor. He agreed to name me “Victoria” as long as I was always called only that. It means victory or conquer.

My name has special meaning to me because it’s from my father. But especially so since our house caught on fire when I was 4 month old. My father attempted to save my sister and I and no one realized he was in the house until after the fire was out. He survived having 98% of his body having 3rd degree burns for 5 months, but eventually succumbed to complications. Needless to say, I’ve stuck to “Victoria” and have never been called anything but in honor of my father. As a child, I was told not to answer to “Vickie”, which didn’t make some of my teachers happy.

I never knew him, but carry his name proudly.

My name is Isabela, which is the same as Isabella, Isabel, Elizabeth, and so many others. According to the website “Behind the name” it means “my God is an oath” or “my God is abundance”. My parents tell me that my name was actually chosen by my older brother because of a little friend he had met at swimming lessons. And both my parents really liked it, so they named me Isabela.
