Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

No exciting meaning or family significance behind my first name… But- in an entry dated a week prior to my birth, my parents wrote that they had settled on ‘Lindsay Ann’ for my first and middle name… but after I was born- they changed into ‘Lindsay Taylor’. They don’t recall what inspired them to change it!

I was named after my great great aunt! My mother actually did not have a girls name picked out until two weeks before I arrived. She was convinced she was having a boy. I am just thankful she went for a typical 80’s middle name and did not saddle me with my great great aunt’s middle name (Ola).

Nothing exciting about my name, except the meaning that it took on after the movie Breakfast Club came out. “Clare, that’s a fat girl’s name.” Happy to see that it’s become so popular for the under-5 set, though.

FABRIC ME! Actually my parents had trouble picking a name for me. They couldn’t decide on a girls name, so I went 3 whole days without a name! The nurses had a running joke going. Everytime they would roll me back to the nursery they would write a new ‘name’ on my crib. When I would come back my dad would get so mad he would rip it off my cart…..ha ha. The nurses just kept teasing that if they would come up with a name then they wouldn’t keep putting fake ones on my crib. :)

My name is Sarah Elizabeth. In Hebrew Sarah translates to “Princess” and with the “h” at the end it add the meaning “with grace”. Elizabeth in Hebrew means “of God” so my name means Princess with grace of God. Elizabeth is also my grandmother’s middle name. Personally I think the meaning behind my name is pretty cool even though I think all girls are princesses! I used to not like the name Sarah because at least 3 other girls in my class all through grade school also had the name and class could get very confusing.. but now I love it. My parents almost named me Amy.. I’m very glad they didn’t.

fabric me. My first name has no significance. I was born 2 months early so I was a big surprise. I didn’t have a name for a week. Finally I think my Mom was watching North by Northwest in the hospital and the leads name sounded good. I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’m also really partial to Cary Grant but I don’t think my name has anything to do with it. :)

There isn’t really a special meaning behind my first name “Stephanie.” The story I’ve always heard from my parents was that they didn’t have a list of preselected names when I was born, I just “looked like a Stephanie.” My middle name “Lynne” is a family name, though.
