Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME! Well, my mom swears that when she named me that she had never met any other Ashleys… obviously the name really took off in the mid-80s and I have the same name as everyone else my age :) It doesn’t have any special meaning to my parents except that they both liked it!

My mom and her younger brother used to play Batman and Robin, and she was always Robin, so she says I was named after her in a way.

FABRIC ME! My parents just liked my name :) the funny thing is so did their friends. They (the parents) were military and at different duty stations, so they also named their daughter Cheryl……several years later we lived close again, so it was Cheryl A and Cheryl L (our middle initials) to tell us apart. We are still friends to this day!!

Nothing meaningful behind my name, but my son’s middle name is Elway, if that gets me anything.

That’s where I got my name. P.S…I highly recommend naming a child a unique name. Never another Lela in any of my classes! :)

So my dad named me, my mom named my sister. My aunt told me that my dad named me after a girl he had a crush on in high school. My mom doesn’t know that though, and since they’ve been happily married for 33 years, there’s no way I’m telling her now.

I was named after my mum’s best friend growing up, Jennifer. My mum said she was a fun, funny and sweet person, all things she’d hoped her daughter would be, plus mum said growing up, she was the only Jennifer she had ever met making the name quite unique. Oh how unique it turned out not to be eh? :) Oh well, I still love my name and even better, the reason my mum chose it.
