Fab Freebie: What’s In A Name?

*** This giveaway is now closed – see who won below! ***

After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!

I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

    FABRIC ME!

My name (Laura) doesn’t have any special meaning, but I am fortunate to have a name at all. When my parents left the hospital they did not have a name for me yet. My birth certificate arrived and my mom didn’t look at it until it was time for me to start kindergarten (typical for a second child). Sure enough it said, ‘Baby Ramos’. Ha! Mom had to go downtown and give me a name before I could start school.

FABRIC ME! I don’t know of any significant meaning for my name and I don’t think I was named after anyone. I guess my parents just liked it. By full name is Patricia Ellen, which I always hated….maybe because the only time my full name was used, I was in big trouble, lol!I just go by Trish now. Anyways, thanks so much for the giveaway as you can never have too much fabric! And thanks to my niece for sending me the link to your awesome blog…Love it!

My parents chose my name because a girl in my sisters class had the same name and it was similar to my moms sister named Jan. it was theonky name they both agreed on (mom wanted Carly, Dad wanted Sally) and I love my name!

    Fabric me!!

My name is Joanna which means gracious. (Thanks for the high expectations, mom) Actually, it was originally “Johanna”. The “h” was supposed to be silent and the middle “a” was supposed to make the “ah” sound. No one got it right. So my mom and I got frustrated, took out the H, and went with the common pronunciation! I totally wanted to be a Tiffany or Stephanie until I was probably 15. But now I love my name! :)

My parents always wanted to call me Beth but had to name me Elizabeth in order to be baptized Catholic (Had to be a saint’s name…gotta love it!). For a few years (8th and 9th) grade, I tried to go by Elizabeth because I thought it was crazy to go by a nickname all the time. Weird, I know. Glad Elizabeth never caught on b/c Beth fits me so much more!

I am a twin, however, unfortunately my sister died at birth. It was as my mother says “the best, and worst day of her life”. I know… Sad story. So here is the naming part. My parents both had one name they really liked, and because my dad saw how hard the whole event was for my mom, she got to name me, the survivor, and he named my sister. That’s love if you ask me :)

Nothing I’d call special about my name given that it was the number 1 most common female name given to a child from 1965-1985 and only dropped from the top 10 in 2010!

My parent’s went with the meaning something. My first name is the name of my mother’s best friend since pre-school and my middle name is my mother’s favorite Aunt.

Now if I had been a boy I would have been named after my Dad and beeing the third.

My name is from the store, Tiffany and co. My parents went to the Tiffany store in New York looking for a diamond ring for my mom. While in the store they decided that they would rather have another child than a diamond! So I was named Tiffany! (I’m the youngest of 6 kids).

My parents named me Andie (full name Andrea) because they liked names that had nicknames, they picked out Katherine before I was born (Kate for short) but too many other kids starting popping up with the name Katherine so they switched it. Now I’m Andie exclusively and I love that it’s a little androgynous.
