After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Sara says
FABRIC ME!
“Sara” means princess. There isn’t much of a story behind how I got my name. I had an ancestor named Sarah Eliza, but my mother just loved the name.
Candace says
Fabric Me!
And the story behind my name… was that my mom blurted it as a last minute decision between Gillian, Amy, or Candace (Candace won!) Apparently it stems from the names of all the queens in Ethiopia from ancient times. Or glowing white? Sure!
Michelle M says
FABRIC ME! No story to my name, but I would have been Michael if I’d been a boy.
Caitlin B says
FABRIC ME!
Jessica says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning behind my name, but my parents named all my siblings with names that began with ‘J’
nikki says
FABRIC ME!
I wish I could say my name means something but it doesn’t. All of my kids, however, have family names that have been passed down :)
Laura says
FABRIC ME!!
It was the only name my parents could agree on and I have deceased family members with names very similar to it.
Aly Wags says
FABRIC ME!
When my mother was pregnant with me, she was shopping for baby clothes and found a dress with a tag that read, “Name your next little girl Alyssa.” So she did. I guess she was susceptible to ad messages…
I just checked out the online fabric store and I am drooling! I am planning on making a new duvet this year so winning this prize would be amazing.
Tiffany L says
FABRIC ME!
Well, my parents had several names picked out for me, Tiffany (if I had blonde hair and blue eyes) and Heather (if I had red hair and green eyes). Well, in the midst of the meds they gave my mom during delivery, she decided it to be Tiffany…even though as a baby I started with red hair (which turned blonde as I got older) and blue eyes (which as a child switched between blue and green depending on clothing). I’m happy to say I’ve lived up to the name Tiffany with everything working out in the way it should with blonde hair and blue eyes. My middle name has more significance (Louise) because my mom and my grandmother have this middle name. The middle name was given to my grandmother because Louise was her mother’s best friend’s name.
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!
I was named Amanda because my parents were looking for something to flow with my middle name, Maxine. They chose my middle name after my 94-year-old grandmother who is still kickin’ it in a 2-story condo on her own! She amazes and inspires me every day. :)
sophie says
FABRIC ME!
sophie – sophia – sonya – mean wisdom. I remember being very jealous, as a child, that my older sister’s name meant princess and mine was wisdom. I’ve grown wiser in the intervening decades and am quite pleased with widsom!
Reshma Sanjeev says
FABRIC ME!
My name Reshma means “Silk” “Silky”. In India, name is selected as per the Zodiac signs and birth stars. My parents were asked to select the name(after I was born) starting with “Re” or “Ra”. My Mom selected “Reshma” which was not a very common or popular name at that time. I do like my name and I have only met 2-3 other “Reshma’s” till date….:-).
Dama E says
FABRIC ME!! Dama (pronounced like Dana, but with an M) means lady in latin … not really sure how it was selected. I once wished it to be something else, but have outgrown that phase and now I appreciate it’s uniqueness.
Louise says
FABRIC ME
I’m named after one of my great-great-aunts. She isn’t famous world wide, but being named after someone who did a lot of awesome things is something I’m proud of. Also, having a “retro” name that isn’t as common anymore is fun.
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my mother’s second cousin, Heather Lynn. Not the best story, but I like the name! I don’t come across too many Heathers…
Claire says
FABRIC ME!
I was named for Mother Teresa and Saint Claire. Super Catholic!
Frieda says
Fabric me! My name is a family name, my great-great-(great?)grandmother had the same name. It’s a Germanic name meaning “peaceful ruler” or “rich of peace”.
Jackie says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after my grandfather, Jack. My mom wanted a unisex name because she was concerned about the glass ceiling, and my dad just thought it was awesome to only have to pick out one name!
Joseph says
FABRIC ME! I was actually supposed to be named Christopher – my parents wanted all C names, but they thought it would be too confusing so my older sisters got C names and I was named Joseph
Anna Kelly says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “graceful”. It’s funny because I’m not. :)
Holli says
Fabric me! My first name isn’t anything but arbitrary, but my middle name is the same as my mother’s, and my daughter’s middle name followed suit. Three generations, three same middle names!
Juliet says
FABRIC ME! My mom wanted to name me Hallie after my grandfather, Harold, but my dad wasn’t into it. I like that it has a significance, but I’m glad they went with Juliet; Hallie is just so not me!
carrie says
Fabric Me!
I’m named after the two daughters of a local furniture store owner in the city where I was born- Carrie and Beth!
Jane says
FABRIC Me! My original name is Yevgeniya, which means noble in Greek. But when my family moved to America, I Englified the diminutive of my name (Zhenya) to Jane since asking most people to pronounce Yevgeniya or even Zhenya would make for some awkward moments.
Emily E says
FABRIC ME!!!
Nothing terribly exciting about my name. My middle name is my moms maiden name and now its my son’s middle name too. I think that is pretty neat :)
Zero34 says
FABRIC ME!
me, nothing special.. my son who was born last month however.. When my wife and I met years ago, we’d always known what we would name our daughter if we had one (and we wound up having one and stuck to that name in the end) but we never had a name for a boy. That changed when we were prepping for our wedding and the priest, during our first meetings with him, noticed that both my wife and I were baptized at a “St.Thomas” church, though one in Washington, and one in Quebec. “St Thomas brought you together, surely you’ll name your son Thomas if you have a boy someday right?” and it just CLICKED.. it worked perfectly.. so, on the Mayan Apocalypse, we had the honor of naming our son Thomas Gregory…
hope he likes it, cause we’re not changing it! haha

“FABRIC ME!” Best I know is that my name means “pure.” :)
Annemarie Moses says
FABRIC ME! My mom, Leanne, is an avid TV watcher who know she wanted some part of her name in mine (her only child). At the time her favorite show was That Girl starring Marlo Thomas, so I became “That girl” & was named Annemarie after the lead character.
Kristin says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me Kristin because they liked the name Kristy. Ironically, that is the ONLY nickname/abbreviating of my name that I CAN. NOT. STAND. Full stop. I’ll go by Kris, Krissy, my dad even calls me Lissie. But I can’t stand Kristy for some reason. And when I found out that I was named Kristin because of that, I thought that was pretty dang amusing!
Rachel says
FABRIC ME!!
I wouldn’t change my name…always have loved it :-)
Angela says
Fabric me! Angel+a so I’m obviously angelic, haha! My mom wanted to name me Shaunika so I’m very happy that was vetoed.
Martha Miller says
My name is Martha Ann. On my maternal side I had an Aunt Stella Martha. My maternal grandmother was Anna Martha, her mother was Hannah Martha. It wasn’t until this contest came up for discussion that I found out my paternal grandmothers name was Martha also. It is said that the name goes farther back on both sides. In my adolescence, I never appreciated its uniqueness. In my young adulthood as I started having my own kids I proclaimed that awful name is stopping with me! Now I appreciate its heritage, the deep love & respect with which it was bestowed on me.
kelly says
fabric me! :)
i got my name because of all the names that my mom suggested to my teacher father, Kelly was the only one he didn’t associate negatively with a former student. pretty sure it means ‘warrior maid’, which, let’s be honest, is kinda awesome.
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name is the same as my mom and grandmother. Growing up I hated it and thought it was way too old fashioned, but now I really love it and hope to share it with a daughter of my own one day.
Michelle says
FABRIC ME!

Jennifer says
Fabric Me please!!
No cool story behind my name, my mom just liked it. Growing up I always wished it had been a little less common, I once had 5 Jennifer’s in my class. But, I’ve grown to love it.
brittany says
“FABRIC ME!” My parents actually had a boy’s name picked out before I was born because that was what they thought was coming. Low and behold I was a girl :) My dad eventually picked out my name for no particular reason other than that he liked it!
Martha Miller says
I forgot to say Fabric Me!!
Ginger Berry says

Abby Jones says
Fabric me! All the kids in my family have four letter names; my parents wanted short and sweet so they’d be easy to remember :)
Nicole says
Fabric Me!
No special meaning for my name. The only story I’ve heard is how my dad did switch the name order on my mom and the last minute, so instead of Rachele Nicole, I’m Nicole Rachele.
Kelly says
FABRIC ME!
My parents picked names for my brothers and I that can’t easily be shortened because that is a huge pet peeve for them! Little did they realize how many people would start calling me “Kel” down the road!
