After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!

Tara says
Fabric Me!
Say my name, Say me name….Tara means earth and my mom was inspired by Gone With The Wind where the plantation is named Tara. Also, little known fact waaaay waaay back it used to be the capital of Ireland before Dublin (that’s what I’ve been told but have yet to verify).
Lisa says
FABRIC ME! Sweet giveaway! I don’t even know the meaning of my name, how sad is that? Lisa…one of 6 in my graduating class!
Becca G. says
FABRIC ME! I was named “Rebecca” after a great-great Aunt…and after I was born and the name was official, they found out her name was really “Robena” Whew!
Katie says
Fabric Me! My mom named me Kathryn after the hostess of the Christmas party she was at when she went into labor. Thankful I liked the way that Kathryn spelled it!
Sandy says
Online fabric store has probably the worst customer service ever and will probably not be able to handle the increased traffic your blog will bring them so buyer beware.
Jeannie says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my paternal grandmother, which explains why I almost never meet somebody my age with my same name… it’s always “my grandmother’s name was Jeannie” or “I had a great-aunt Jeannie”… haha
Becky Pearce says
Fabric me! I wasn’t named after anyone. I like my first name but always wished my parents had gone with Becca instead of Becky.
Whitney says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me after the late, great Whitney Houston in hopes that I’d share her love of singing. Fortunately, I do–but without the struggles that she had! The actual old-school, Anglo-Saxon meaning of my name is…I think “one from the White Island.” Kinda boring. Ehn.
Lisa says
FABRIC ME! I’m a twin, and my name was supposed to be Stephanie. At the last minute my parents chose Lisa which is such a common name at my age group. Its funny to think of yourself with a name your parents almost chose!
Kandy says
Fabric Me pretty please. My name was chosen because it’s a town in the middle of Sri Lanka and my parents thought it was a lovely name. If however I turned out to be a boy I was going to be called Raife, just as well I am a girl I guess!
Jennifer Giorno says
FABRIC ME!
My name was super popular so in my high school chemistry class there were 9 other Jennifers. Despite it all, I never wanted to change it.
Kathryn says
FABRIC ME!!!
I was named after the great Katherine Hepburn, but with the Irish Celtic spelling. Who better to take a name from, then a woman who had headstrong independence and a spirited personality :)
Katy says
fabric me! no meaning :(
Caitlyn says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose my name to match my father’s initials, while my brother’s matches my mom’s initials. I was supposed to be named Carra, but when my father called his mother to say I had been born, she told him it was his great aunt Katherine’s birthday. Since everyone called her Katie, my parents decided to go with their second choice for my name — Caitlyn, shortened to Caity.
Brenda says
FABRIC ME!
My name was just one my parents liked, no special meaning.
Maggie Roberts says
Fabric ME!
Well, I’ve always been okay with my name I think, Margaret Anna, however my parents were told that it was too ‘old’ for a little girl…so they called me Maggie. I enjoyed being the only Maggie in my classes throughout school…and then I started realizing something. When someone would ask me my name I’d tell them, and most of the time they’d respond with, “oh! My golden retriever’s name was Maggie when I was little!” or…”I used to know such a sweet cocker spaniel named Maggie..” I started to realize that my cute little girl nick name that my family had thought was so sweet…was usually chosen to be the family dog’s name. I’ve since come to terms with it, but if I end up having a baby girl at some point, I’m going to try to make sure that she doesn’t share her name with numerous retrievers, cocker spaniels and other family dogs. :-)
Megan says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me after Magens Bay in St. Thomas. They’d visited the island on vacation and fell in love with the area.
Lyndsey M says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name is the same as my mom’s, so that was always special.
Julie says
FABRIC ME!
I was originally going to be named Kailyn, but last minute my dad freaked & convinced my mom to name me Julie instead. His sister (my Aunt) is named Julie as well, but they claim they didn’t technically name me after her. They just like the name! Good thing b/c although it wasn’t my absolute favorite growing up, I like it now. :)
Abby Marie says
Fabric Me!
I was named after my dad’s sister.
Elisa says
Fabric me!
I think my parents had a friend named Elisa and they just liked it. Which I’m glad – I love my name!
Alip says
FABRIC ME!
Lauren says
FABRIC ME! Always wished I had a more original name!
Carlene says
Fabric me!
Apparently my mom just knew a lady named “Carlene” and liked her so much, she named me after her. Not super exciting, but I DID meet another Carlene and she explained her name came from the fact that she was conceived in a car. That leaned. Yup.
Margaret says
FABRIC ME!
kathie says
FABRIC ME! Aside from the meaning of my name, I’m grateful my mom won the battle. Daddy wanted to name me Kathleen Ilene, she wanted Kathleen Ann. Try saying Kathleen Ilene 10 times fast. Hmmmmm.
Wendy says
Fabric Me!
Lisa G says
FABRIC ME! I wish my name meant something cool, but alas it’s just what my parents “thought I looked like” at birth. It was between Lisa and Valerie, and I think they made a good choice!
Jess says
FABRIC ME!
First name: Jessica — blech! no story there. except it was popular in the 70s, that and Jennifer DOUBLE BLECH!
Middle name: Theresa — LOVE IT! was named after my favorite Aunt who goes by Tre, as in the leafy thing, NOT Mr. Parker of Southpark fame.
…but i digress.
Ryan says
Fabric Me! My mom named all us girls names that could go for either a boy or a girl. Ryan, Erin, Randi.
Crista says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name is Joy because my parents were so happy to have me! (sappy but true!)
Kristen says
FABRIC ME! No special meaning, my parents just liked the name.
Laura says
Fabric me! No exciting story behind my name, my parents just liked it :)
Sara K. B. says
Fabric me!
No special story about my name, my parents just liked it. They said I looked like a Sara. I like it.
Serena says
FABRIC ME!!
Serena comes from the word serene and means calm, quiet and peaceful. My dad picked it out of the dictionary because, as a young, first time father, that was exactly what he wanted his first baby to be like.
Katie says
Fabric Me! My parents chose a pretty popular name for me. It seemed like every other girl in school was named Katie!
Kelli says
FABRIC ME! There is no family connection behind my name. In fact, although I was born two weeks overdue my parents did not have a name chosen for me yet and my grandmother suggested ‘Kelli.’ My mom had been considering Joy instead, but as it turns out one of the meanings for Kelli, warrior, actually suits me better (in the best way possible, of course!).
catherine says
fabric me!!
my name is a combination of the names of my grandmothers. i get tired of telling people how to spell catherine, but i know it could have been worse. if the middle and first names of the grandmothers had been chosen differently, i could have been mildred lou. no thanks.
Marina says
FABRIC ME!
Due to an ultrasound results mix-up (not that surprising b/c I was born in Soviet Russia), my parents were expecting a boy. When I arrived, they had no name picked out and so for the first 2 weeks I was simply “daughter dear.” Then my very conservative Russian Orthodox grandma came to visit and was horrified at my lack of name. So she pulled out a book of martyrs and checked which saint was martyred close to my birthdate. That’s how they did it in the old days and that’s how I got my name. I love it.
Jess Ortman says
Fabric Me! My name was the number one girls name the year I was born, however if I was a boy I was going to be Sebastian!? Good thing I was a girl. LOL
Lisa says
Fabric Me!
My name has no particular meaning; my mom just liked Lisa. I do feel a bit lucky though because she almost named me Betsy or Betty. They’re nice enough names, just not my favorites.
Heather H says
FABRIC ME! Mom claims Heather Lee sounded like Heavenly… who knows if she made that excuse up after the fact. btw, this fabric would look great on my side chair…or for curtains…but first, I’d love to use it for my wedding photobooth backdrop. Great giveaway, YHL!
Desiré Brink says
FABRIC ME!!! IF people hear my name they say: “You know, Neil Diamond had a song called Desiré…” And I ended up being serenaded: “Desiré, Oh Desiré….!!!” :) :)
DJ says
Fabric Me!
My name means lady.
Kelly (Anne) says
FABRIC ME! Named after my great-grandma, Anne Kelly. Earth-shattering, I know. :)
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “princess” but I’ve always wanted it to be something more unique, or spelled differently. I’m convinced that “Sarah” was the name parents gave their kids between 1975-1980 when they couldn’t come up with anything else.
Mona O | Renters in Love says
FABRIC ME! Like all the kids in the family, our Sanskrit names were picked by our father.
Monica B says
“FABRIC ME!” my dad picked my name much to my mothers chagrin who wanted to call me Brooke.
Julie says
FABRIC ME! My middle name is after my grandma
