After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Tess says
FABRIC ME! My mom got my name from the novel Tess of the d’Ubervilles. I hadn’t met another Tess growing up… But a few years ago I worked at a company and they hired two girls within a week… both named Tess. Wild!
Devon says
FABRIC ME!
I guess there are two reasons behind my name. It’s Irish and my mom liked it when she saw it so thats how I got it.
Megan says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Irish, thought my mother initially wanted to name me Gertrude, my father quickly wrote down Megan in my birth certificate…
Thanks for the offer!
Megan
Georgia says
FABRIC ME!
my name was given to me by my parents who chose it after my mother’s great aunt. she was a respected and loved teacher and artist. my parents loved the name and always wanted to use it if they had a girl. strangely, though, they chose virginia for my older sister’s name, so they must not have wanted to use it that bad. *wink*
i was not expected to be a twin… they didn’t know until after i came out that there were two of us. so my twin was born after me, and you’d think they would have named her with the name of a state as well. but virginia and georgia were not chosen to be gimmicky or match-matchy… they just happened to like both names. so what did they name my twin?… angela. go figure. i grew up always wondering why they didn’t give her a state name. and speaking of growing up, it was during those years that i envied my twin’s name, because it seemed “normal” and she never got teased for it. me? i was teased endlessly. constantly called “texas” or “alabama” and such. that was the only period of my life that i did not like my name. now i’m 41, and wouldn’t change it for the world. i LOVE the name georgia now… and have for several years. having a somewhat unique name now as an adult made all the teasing i had to endure as a youngin’ worth it! =)
woh… that was a long comment! sorry. =)
Connie Marie says
FABRIC ME!
Honestly, I have no idea why my parents picked my name.
Rachel says
FABRIC ME!
This was the first name my parents could agree on, although they still argue on who suggested it :)
Rachael says
FABRIC ME!!!!!!!!!!!!
My name really has no special signifigance, as far as I’m aware of. It’s spelled weird, and I’ve had people call me “Ra-shell” on a very frequent basis. “Rachel” means “ewe” in Hebrew, which is a female sheep, or “innocent”. But people call me “Raquel”, “Rock”(short for Raquel”, “Rach”…pretty much whatever!
Trudi says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my mother’s first real doll.
Meghan says
FABRIC ME!!
No cool story on my first name, but I have 2 middle names, both of which are family names (a grandmother’s surname & another grandmother’s middle name.)
Jill says
FABRIC ME!
Each letter in my first name stands for a name of a female family member. The J is for Joylene (my mother’s sister), the I is for Ica (my maternal great-grandmother), the first L is for Lou (the middle name of my paternal aunt), and the second L is for Lynn (my mother’s middle name).
I didn’t love my name growing up because it wasn’t very common. I wanted to be called Christina.
Now, however, I appreciate the uniqueness of my name and am happy my parents blessed me with the bonds of strong women in my family.
Heather says
FABRIC ME! No special family meaning behind my name, although when I first found out that it’s also the name of flowers on the English moors, I thought it was very cool. At camp, I always went by my middle name “Griffin” (which is a family name) because there were so many Heathers.
Kara says
Fabric me! I love my name! No special meaning or anything behind it, my mom saw it in our family tree, but spelled with a ‘C’ and she decided to spell it with a ‘K’! Fantastic giveaway! I hope I win! Love your blog! You all are crazy, especially loved the thrift shop post!
Take care,
Kara
gina w. says
Fabric Me! I think Gina (short for regina) means regal or something like that. I like my name other than having to say it myself. I can’t stand how I say my name. Nerdy, huh?
Stephanie says
Fabric Me! No special story behind my name. I hated it growing up. It was the most popular name the year I was born (1985). I still won’t answer if someone calls my name out in public because 9 times out of 10 they’re not yelling at me.
Allison says
FABRIC ME!
My first name is just one that my parents liked (they had to come up with three, because I’m a triplet!), but my middle name is a family name – my great-great grandmother’s maiden name. When I was younger I hated it, and wanted a “normal girl’s” middle name. Now I love it! (it’s Barnes, BTW)
Deb says
Fabric me! I’m pretty sure my name means ‘the bee’ or something along those lines. Any who I always thought my mom jumped on the band wagon a little to late for “Deborah” because everyone I know with the name, is 60+ and all go by “Debbie”. Any they all assume I do as well :)
rachel says
FABRIC ME!
My parents picked my named from the Bible. They thought it was going to be really unusual, but there were always a ton of Rachels at my school :-)
Callie says
FABRIC ME! My name is Callie Rebecca. Callie was my great-great-great grandmother, and Rebecca was her daughter! I really like my name – it’s not too common, and I like that it’s a family name.
Michelle says
FABRIC ME!!! It was the only name my parents agreed on. I didn’t even have a middle name since picking the first was that difficult.

Fabric me! I was named after my parents’ friend and mentor Lee Morrone. She is still kickin at 87 and has done amazing things for children with special needs at Camp LeeMar. I wouldn’t have wanted to be named after anyone else.
Patty says
Fabric me. I am named after my mom’s BFF and she is my godmother.

FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted to name me Rose after St Rose Phillipine Duchesne but my dad and sibs rejected it. So her twin suggested Ellen. which they went with, and Duchesne became my middle name.
Stephanie says
Fabric Me!
My name was supposed to be Hailey, but apparently when I was born it just didn’t suit! So Stephanie it was.
Jackie says
FABRIC ME!! I got my first and middle names from the girl my dad dated shortly before he met my mom. My mom really liked her names but decided to spell them differently!
Tricia says
FABRIC ME!
my name at birth was Jennifer Rebecca, however, my grandmother thought it was a big name and that i might have trouble spelling it when i got to school (thanks for the vote of confidence gram!! lol), so my mom changed it to Tricia after President Nixon’s daughter since he was president when i was born!! :)
Roger Kelley says

Terresa says
FABRIC ME!!! Nothing special about my name, except the weird spelling. I always disliked it when I was growing up, now I’ve made peace with it. I think my middle name is cute — Rae.
Maria Carolina Silva says
FABRIC ME!
Maria was my maternal great grandmother’s name, and Carolina was my paternal great grandmother’s name. I think it turned out a pretty name and I love it ;)
Rachel says
FABRIC ME! Rachel is Hebrew – it means ewe (girl sheep) and is Biblical. No idea why my parents picked it!
Stephanie Silverstein says
FABRIC ME! My middle name came from the nurse that delivered me according to my dad, no special meaning to my first name. Maybe that’s why it took me 9 months to name both of my kids – I wanted some special meaning!!
Emma S says
FABRIC ME! I was named for the character Emma Peel, the spy from the 60’s British tv show The Avengers. My parents were watching a lot of reruns of the show when my mum was pregnant, and they both loved the name Emma. I’m pretty sure they weren’t the only ones either, since my elementary school class in England had 4 girls named Emma in it – I guess the reruns of The Avengers in 1982 were very well received!?
Christina says
Fabric me, pleeeeaaaase!
No special meaning to my name, just the only name my parents could agree on. Much prefer my middle name though.
marly z. says
FABRIC ME!!!!! I was named after an aunt. Not sure why.
Lauren says
Fabric Me!
My mom was going to name me Ashley, but my Grandpa made fun of her for naming me after such a popular name (#2 that year). So she used it for a middle name and named me Lauren… #16. Lauren Ashley, nothing rare about that :)
Lin says
Fabric Me! Full name disclosure: Linda, so you can tell what generation I’m from. I shortened it to Lin because of work-related name confusion with too many like-minded Lindas (and Linnies and Lindys).
Devon says
FABRIC ME! I was actually supposed to be named Bevin, but my dad said it was “too f’ing weird” (to those Bevins out there- I think you’re awesome). So Devon it was…and if I came out a boy? Wayne. Thank you PA cities for inspiring my parents ha
Ceejay says
Fabric Me! My grandmother picked my name and I guess because I was the fourth child my mom and dad just went with it. I have never loved it and people can’t remember it, I have to spell it each time, etc. so now I just go by my initials-cj which makes it so much easier!
cici says
FABRIC ME! Have wished for a bit more unusual name–I was one of three Cindy Smiths in my small-town high school…alas. On the bright side, I rarely have to spell it for anyone :)
Annie says
FABRIC ME!!!
Annie is a nickname for my formal name Andrea.
