Fab Freebie: Sew Sweet

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, these three ladies are getting a kick start to Mother’s Day: Traci (who inherited her mother’s worrying skills!), April (who got her mom’s love of shopping, travel and new things) and Stacy (who inherited the gift of being a good cook from her mom).

Because becoming a mom has mysteriously given Sherry the urge to learn how to sew (more on that here and here) we thought we’d use this pre-Mother’s Day giveaway to dish out TWO fabric-tastic prizes to THREE lucky winners. And they won’t have to sew a stitch because it has already been done for ’em. The first comes from City Chic Country Mouse, whose Etsy shop caters to those who want to inject a bit of chic to their chore list (not that any moms should be doing housework on Mother’s Day). Each of our three winners can choose from any of their colorful, graphic, and punchy ironing board covers, which will definitely cheer up any laundry room:

Ironing Boards

Plus those same three lucky winners get a double dose this week. A customized fabric wreath from a local Richmonder who puts her sewing prowess to work in her Etsy shop, Love Elaine is also on the agenda. While she’s got cool modern spins on aprons, quilts, and bags – her fabric wreaths are always a favorite. And yup, each winner gets to pick our their own colors.

LoveElaine Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Any ironing board cover from City Chic Country Mouse and a custom fabric wreath from Love Elaine
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us one quality you’re glad you inherited – or wish you had inherited – from your mother (or other parental type figure). Are you grateful she instilled strong family values? Or that she passed down her sense of style / fabulous cooking abilities? Or do you keep waiting for her sewing skills to kick in like Sherry?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States and Canada
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from City Chic Country Mouse and Love Elaine.

SEW ME!! I wish I had inherited my mother’s fabulous sewing skills. She made dresses for me as a child and continues to hem all of my pants, as I am only 5’1″ tall. I am thankful that I did inherit her motivation to attempt DIY projects although both of us may or may not be thrilled with our end result, we still try!

SEW ME! i did not inherit my mom’s craftiness and general home maker skills, but wish i did. Growing up she made our clothes, and her own. She also won a cooking contest w/ a grand prize of a trip to Hawaii, a very glamorous thing in the 60s! She did give me a very cool ring she designed, though, so there’s that.

I love that I inherited my mom’s nature of all things crafty. When my sister and I were little, she used to craft up a storm and do an annual Christmas Craft Sale out of our home.

I haven’t gotten anywhere near that, but I do love to scrapbook, reupholster, paint, sew, etc! thanks Mom!

    SEW ME!!!

My Mom passed away in 2007 and I just had my first child last September. One thing my Mom taught me was LOVE. She always, always told us she loved us. From the time we were babies to adulthood – even when it embarrassed us. I absolutely plan to do the same thing with my daughter. Thank you, Mom!!

I wish I knew how to cook (and enjoyed it). My “anal retentive” personality makes cooking a chore because I require a recipe, and will follow it to the letter. Luckily my husband can make a meal out of anything in the fridge/ pantry and I can clean like no other, so we’re a good team :-)

SEW ME! I inherited, from my mama, a spirit of spontaneity and the ability to find joy and entertainment in simple things that don’t cost a lot of $, like out-of-the-blue road trips, camping in the backyard, making pizza and calling friends to come over…

My mom has always been a bit of a vintage and eclectic girl. When I was in high school she gave me her costume jewelry which consisted of gaudy, old-fashion and clanky clip on earrings and necklaces. Evidently so got all of them from an auction when she was younger in a box for $5.00….I inherited my mothers vintage style and her resourceful ways….I’m a garage sale/bargain girl. Ex: I just got kitchen cabinets from someone’s trash and will repaint them to re-use as storage. Hey, I mean…one man’s trash is another man’s treasure right? Thanks mom

I wish I’d have inherited my Mama’s incredible smarts. I did inherit her unconditional love though. I feel like I have all the tools to be a great mother, from everything my mom did for me.

This prize would be PERFECT for us! We inherited the ironing board of my parents that they inherited from my uncle AGES ago. My best guess is its original age is 1970s-ish. The actual mechanism is actually in fairly good shape and we hate to throw things that work away. However, the cover is a mess! I guess 40 yrs of work will do that!
