Fab Freebie: Sew Sweet

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, these three ladies are getting a kick start to Mother’s Day: Traci (who inherited her mother’s worrying skills!), April (who got her mom’s love of shopping, travel and new things) and Stacy (who inherited the gift of being a good cook from her mom).

Because becoming a mom has mysteriously given Sherry the urge to learn how to sew (more on that here and here) we thought we’d use this pre-Mother’s Day giveaway to dish out TWO fabric-tastic prizes to THREE lucky winners. And they won’t have to sew a stitch because it has already been done for ’em. The first comes from City Chic Country Mouse, whose Etsy shop caters to those who want to inject a bit of chic to their chore list (not that any moms should be doing housework on Mother’s Day). Each of our three winners can choose from any of their colorful, graphic, and punchy ironing board covers, which will definitely cheer up any laundry room:

Ironing Boards

Plus those same three lucky winners get a double dose this week. A customized fabric wreath from a local Richmonder who puts her sewing prowess to work in her Etsy shop, Love Elaine is also on the agenda. While she’s got cool modern spins on aprons, quilts, and bags – her fabric wreaths are always a favorite. And yup, each winner gets to pick our their own colors.

LoveElaine Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Any ironing board cover from City Chic Country Mouse and a custom fabric wreath from Love Elaine
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us one quality you’re glad you inherited – or wish you had inherited – from your mother (or other parental type figure). Are you grateful she instilled strong family values? Or that she passed down her sense of style / fabulous cooking abilities? Or do you keep waiting for her sewing skills to kick in like Sherry?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States and Canada
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from City Chic Country Mouse and Love Elaine.

SEW ME! I inherited half of my mom’s DIY nature. Only, the half i’m missing is the skill to finish the job! I suppose that will come in time. :)

My mom used to make all of her clothes when she was in high school. I’ve never sewed a day in my life. :( I hope to learn how to sew one day…

    SEW ME!

I so WISH I inherited my mom’s sewing skills. Sigh. I have a sewing machine gathering dust in a closet and I am debating getting rid of the darn thing, especially as Sherry noted a while back that there’s nothing she would sew that she can’t do with hem tape.

And, I’m plugging myself, Mr. Random Number Generator, because I HATE ironing. A nice cover for the board would make it at least that much better and have the added advantage of being able to store the board in plain sight.

    SEW ME!

I have been so blessed to have such a wonderful mother. With a father who has always traveled for work, she’s had to be independent and strong for our family. I have always had a great relationship with my mother and can only hope my daughter (Kinlee, 8 months) and I, can have the same connection.

Hope you have a fabulous first mother’s day Sherry and that you are pampered (psst, John, this is your job ;) You deserve it!

SEW ME! I inherited my mother’s love for fabric. Although I haven’t reached her sewing skills, I have made a few cute things on the sewing machine. My goal is to make a quilt before I turn 30!

I’m glad I inherited my grandmother’s habit of believing that if I don’t think about a problem, it doesn’t exist. (!) No really, sometimes that’s unhealthy, but she really was a very positive and fun-loving person.

    Sew Me!

(Wow…those covers are really cool. They actually make me want to get out an ironing board. Oh wait. I don’t own one…I HAVE to buy one now. It’d make my stepmother so happy to see my children in clothes that weren’t wrinkled. I swear the woman nearly fainted when I said I just toss wrinkly clothes in the dryer with a wet washcloth.)

My mom died when I was pregnant with my 1st child at 20 yrs old. I always wished I had learned more of the sewing, knitting and crocheting but…I thought I had forever. Luckily, I was blessed with her creative gene and I LOVE that about myself. I learned I can do anything if I just go out and do it. That I don’t have to wait for anyone to do it for me.

Oh, and I’m SOOO glad I inherited her loud mouth. I get to use it to fight injustice in the world as well as a husband and children that are out to destroy me by putting their dirty clothes ON TOP of the hamper. (Seriously…I even took the lids off and they STILL drape their clothes!)

I grew up with my grandmother – she taught me the value of hard work and using my brain to get ahead. She always told me how smart I was growing up and any time I’m feeling a little lack of confidence, I just remember my grandmother’s teachings. Every day she told me how proud she was of me. I lost her two years ago and I try every day to tell my own daughters the very same things.

SEW ME! I’m glad that as the eldest of four siblings in my family, I had so much time to observe my Mom’s natural parenting. She’s just phenomenal! When I brought my first and only baby home, I was of course, nervous – but as long as I did what my Mom would do, I knew I was making the right parenting choice. It’s been my go to for 2+ years so far, and I’m glad she’s been my guide.

I inherited my mom’s sensitive side. Seriously, the other day I was looking for a card for her birthday (it was on April 27th) and I couldn’t even get through the cards in the card isle without whipping out the tissue. And that Silent Night (sleepin babies) ad that Huggies runs around Christmas time? I finally understand how my mom cries during commercials.

My aunt (who’s like a mother to me)instilled in me that I need to protect my husband’s pride. Don’t talk bad about him to others or tell him he doesn’t make enough money. Instead praise him publicly ALWAYS. She also taught me how to be a God fearing wife and future mother. I am a better person because of her.
