Fab Freebie: Sew Sweet

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, these three ladies are getting a kick start to Mother’s Day: Traci (who inherited her mother’s worrying skills!), April (who got her mom’s love of shopping, travel and new things) and Stacy (who inherited the gift of being a good cook from her mom).

Because becoming a mom has mysteriously given Sherry the urge to learn how to sew (more on that here and here) we thought we’d use this pre-Mother’s Day giveaway to dish out TWO fabric-tastic prizes to THREE lucky winners. And they won’t have to sew a stitch because it has already been done for ’em. The first comes from City Chic Country Mouse, whose Etsy shop caters to those who want to inject a bit of chic to their chore list (not that any moms should be doing housework on Mother’s Day). Each of our three winners can choose from any of their colorful, graphic, and punchy ironing board covers, which will definitely cheer up any laundry room:

Ironing Boards

Plus those same three lucky winners get a double dose this week. A customized fabric wreath from a local Richmonder who puts her sewing prowess to work in her Etsy shop, Love Elaine is also on the agenda. While she’s got cool modern spins on aprons, quilts, and bags – her fabric wreaths are always a favorite. And yup, each winner gets to pick our their own colors.

LoveElaine Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Any ironing board cover from City Chic Country Mouse and a custom fabric wreath from Love Elaine
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us one quality you’re glad you inherited – or wish you had inherited – from your mother (or other parental type figure). Are you grateful she instilled strong family values? Or that she passed down her sense of style / fabulous cooking abilities? Or do you keep waiting for her sewing skills to kick in like Sherry?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States and Canada
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from City Chic Country Mouse and Love Elaine.

    SEW ME!

I inherited my mother’s love of all things white and cottage-y. We’ll slap a coat of white paint on anything that will stand still long enough. Ironically, I wish either of us or both could sew. I think sewing is a lost art.

I inherited my mother’s passion for Excellence. It’s not half-done, it’s not crumbs swept under the rug. . it’s done excellent every time. There’s a difference wanting to be perfect, and wanting to do what you do with excellence. Do your best!

I wish I had inherited the gift of sewing. My Mimi used to make the most amazing doll baby clothes… even replicated some American Girl Doll clothes for me as a little girl. She’s now 94. The most I remember about my Mom sewing is her stitching up holes in my favorite stuffed animal while I stuck needles in the electric sockets. Safe right?

I am very proud to have inherited my mom’s work ethic. I was so blown away when I went away to college and I had to teach everyone on my floor how to do their laundry. I was also the only one who cleaned their room, and my floor mates would pay me to clean their rooms before their own parents came to visit. My roommate was the worst about doing anything that wasn’t eating, sleeping, or hanging out with her boyfriend…I just can’t fathom such laziness!

SEW ME! I actually love that I get to share the sewing bug with my mom & other female family members. For my 26th birthday, I had a “sewing circle” with all the ladies in my family. My mom actually sewed lots when my sis & I were little (clothes for us and home dec types of things) but got away from it. I’m happy that when I became interested in sewing it helped to reignite her love of the craft!

SEW ME! I have inherited the ability to sew from my mom! She used to sew everything for me (dresses, quilts, doll cloths) Recently I have started to sew, starting with my sons high-school graduation quilt made from his shirts growing up. I had a hard time when he left for college and its been therapeutic for me!

Sew me … I have my mother’s “Boy, are you in trouble now” and “this discussion is over” and “my decision is final” voice of which there is no arguing. It’s working wonders on our new adopted 9 month old puppy. When he’s in trouble or has done something bad, he only has to hear that tone and he stops what he’s doing and sits like a good boy. (BTW – my mother is a generous sweetheart – she just didn’t put up with bad behavior!)

funnily enough, sewing is a skill I wish I had inherited. My grandma is a great seamstress and my mother is skilled although she doesn’t do much of it. I can’t even sew a hem or a button! But I think I have the potential for being a good cook, just like them.

My mother has passed down her strength, sensibility, and facial features to me. She’s the most amazing mom, and even after 5 back surgeries and a lot of metal in her back, she still manages to keep on going. Her will is incredible. She always tries to keep the house clean, but with 2 teenage twins following right behind her and messing her hard work up she can’t keep it clean. I’m at college so I can’t be there to help, though I am going to be cleaning, organizing, and redecorating our house which just happens to be in the small town Chester, Va . I would love to give this to my mom because she deserves it (plus we no longer have an ironing board because ours disappeared after our move about 4 years ago).

My mom has the most beautiful laugh in the world. Add that to the fact that she cracks herself up… and the combination makes me laugh, even if what she’s laughing at only makes sense to her. Hopefully my kids will think I’m just as funny as she is.

I’m thankful to have inherited my mother’s fierce loyalty. As a kid, I thought she was kind of crazy for the way she defended us to the bitter end no matter what and sometimes seemingly unnecessarily. As an adult, I’ve learned to temper the trait in myself a bit, but I can totally see how it has made my three sisters and I as close as we are.
