Fab Freebie: Sew Sweet

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, these three ladies are getting a kick start to Mother’s Day: Traci (who inherited her mother’s worrying skills!), April (who got her mom’s love of shopping, travel and new things) and Stacy (who inherited the gift of being a good cook from her mom).

Because becoming a mom has mysteriously given Sherry the urge to learn how to sew (more on that here and here) we thought we’d use this pre-Mother’s Day giveaway to dish out TWO fabric-tastic prizes to THREE lucky winners. And they won’t have to sew a stitch because it has already been done for ’em. The first comes from City Chic Country Mouse, whose Etsy shop caters to those who want to inject a bit of chic to their chore list (not that any moms should be doing housework on Mother’s Day). Each of our three winners can choose from any of their colorful, graphic, and punchy ironing board covers, which will definitely cheer up any laundry room:

Ironing Boards

Plus those same three lucky winners get a double dose this week. A customized fabric wreath from a local Richmonder who puts her sewing prowess to work in her Etsy shop, Love Elaine is also on the agenda. While she’s got cool modern spins on aprons, quilts, and bags – her fabric wreaths are always a favorite. And yup, each winner gets to pick our their own colors.

LoveElaine Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Any ironing board cover from City Chic Country Mouse and a custom fabric wreath from Love Elaine
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us one quality you’re glad you inherited – or wish you had inherited – from your mother (or other parental type figure). Are you grateful she instilled strong family values? Or that she passed down her sense of style / fabulous cooking abilities? Or do you keep waiting for her sewing skills to kick in like Sherry?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States and Canada
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from City Chic Country Mouse and Love Elaine.

    SEW ME!

Sadly I did not inherit my mom’s attitude of being motivated and driven. It takes alot for me to get going on chores and things.

    SEW ME, too!
I believe I inherited my mother’s artistic qualities… She never taught me how to sew, but years ago, before my children were born, I had the strong desire to sew. No manual, no help, just a $25 machine from the pawn and sheer determination. I felt like a complete loser for a long time, but have found that it just takes stick-with-it-ness. I learn everything the hard way, and sewing was no exception. Don’t let the machine get you down, Sherry – stick with it, and soon you’ll be sewing really cute clothes for that really cute little girl, and nothing is more exciting than that! Also, you could save a yo-yo’s worth of each fabric you make her outfits from to make her a yo-yo quilt when she’s grown…

“Sew Me” Because my mom passed away at an impressionable age I have asked myself this very question many times. And now that I have young children myself I know I have inherited the way I adore my children and find myself doing many of the small things she used to do to show me that love. Thank you for asking this question that makes me smile right before mothers day <3

My mother passed away when I was little. I was told she had a mean garden every year and she played 4 instruments. I love to grow flowers and can play 2 instruments. I like to think I got some that from her.

Thanks for the chance to win!

My mother was awesome. I cannot even begin to enumerate all of the wonderful qualities she had. I know it’s not just me, either, because every time I see someone who knew her they just gush about her and how much they miss her, too. But I think the quality of hers that I’m glad I inherited was her goofy sense of humor. All of the times I can remember laughing until I couldn’t breathe were with her. She was a strong, loving woman who could difuse or lighten any situation with brilliant humor.

I’m glad I inherited my parents’ creativity. My dad is an artist (painter and wood carver) and my mom is unusually skilled at simple touches that make a home feel warm and beautiful. They both had careers that didn’t require this creativity, but I really appreciate how they found a way to use their talents outside of their jobs. I’m still working on cultivating my creativity, and have a long way to go, but I know it’s in there!
