Fab Freebie: Sew Sweet

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries – see who won below!***

Thanks to random.org, these three ladies are getting a kick start to Mother’s Day: Traci (who inherited her mother’s worrying skills!), April (who got her mom’s love of shopping, travel and new things) and Stacy (who inherited the gift of being a good cook from her mom).

Because becoming a mom has mysteriously given Sherry the urge to learn how to sew (more on that here and here) we thought we’d use this pre-Mother’s Day giveaway to dish out TWO fabric-tastic prizes to THREE lucky winners. And they won’t have to sew a stitch because it has already been done for ’em. The first comes from City Chic Country Mouse, whose Etsy shop caters to those who want to inject a bit of chic to their chore list (not that any moms should be doing housework on Mother’s Day). Each of our three winners can choose from any of their colorful, graphic, and punchy ironing board covers, which will definitely cheer up any laundry room:

Ironing Boards

Plus those same three lucky winners get a double dose this week. A customized fabric wreath from a local Richmonder who puts her sewing prowess to work in her Etsy shop, Love Elaine is also on the agenda. While she’s got cool modern spins on aprons, quilts, and bags – her fabric wreaths are always a favorite. And yup, each winner gets to pick our their own colors.

LoveElaine Giveaway

  • PRIZE: Any ironing board cover from City Chic Country Mouse and a custom fabric wreath from Love Elaine
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us one quality you’re glad you inherited – or wish you had inherited – from your mother (or other parental type figure). Are you grateful she instilled strong family values? Or that she passed down her sense of style / fabulous cooking abilities? Or do you keep waiting for her sewing skills to kick in like Sherry?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 4th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The United States and Canada
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from City Chic Country Mouse and Love Elaine.

    Sew Me.

I am happy that I inherited my dad’s ability to be content with what I have. Why spend life jealous of others? I’ve got a sweet deal going on right here.

    SEW ME!

I just got a new (used) sewing machine and like Sherry I discovered that I do not share my mom’s sewing skills. I melted my current ironing board cover in the process of making some pillow cases… so this would be a great prize to win. I did manage to stop the machine from creating a birds nest of stiches by adjusting the tension (thanks to the manual which luckily was included with my machine), but we’re still having some disagreements. I think there’s still hope for me, so I’m going to keep at it. Thanks for the laughs and letting me know that I’m not alone as a not-so-pro sewer.

I inherited my mom’s beautiful handwriting… so much so, I could write my own “notes from home in highschool”…oops! Oh so thankful regardless!

Love the ironing board covers! I just took up sewing post wedding and I still iron on my hardwoods :) No one told me ironing was involved in sewing!

    Happy Momma’s Day Sherry!

    SEW ME!

I wish I could sew like my mom. She made all my prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses for my wedding and my sister’s wedding. She’s awesome at it!

And my ironing board is in dire need of a new cover. Been planning to sew one out of some cute fabric for ages, but that sewing DNA just hasn’t made its appearance yet.

SEW ME! My mom is a fearless, I-can-get-anything-done-I-want-to type of woman, and I like to think I inherited a bit of that. My husband calls it stubbornness and says I have plenty ;) I call it a gift and am glad every day for the challenges she inspires me to take on.

The best thing my mother ever gave me was family – throughout everything my family has been through, she has always been there and has given my brother and myself her best always. I want to be able to give that sense of trust and love to any family hubby and I eventually have.

    SEW ME!

I inherited some of my mother’s and grandmother’s amazing sewing skills, but knowing that my mother is a perfectionist, I get frustrated knowing it will never quite be like Mom can do.

I am very proud that I inherited their sense of family. Children have always come first in our family, which I did not truly appreciate until I got older and realized that it is not the same way in every family.

SEW ME!!! I inherited my general handiness to my mom. She is the handy one in her marriage and I am the handy one in my marriage. I am grateful for the ability to figure out how to install/do things that I would normally have to pay someone else to do. I just wish I had inherited her work ethic to go with it.

SEW ME! My mom is a fantastic cook. Every night she prepared a large tasty and nutritious dinner. Even though our home was chaotic at times, my five siblings and I sat with mom at the kitchen table at 6:00 pm and ate (and laughed, teased, argued, spilled milk, etc.) So I cook every day, too. My mom also got me started with sewing, and it didn’t take long for me to surpass her sewing skills and start sewing for relatives and friends.

“SEW ME!” Thanks again for your site. Enjoy your sewing. I sew my own dresses, skirts, window shades etc. because I am small, live in a rural area and maybe I’m a little picky, hmmm. My sweet mother grew up in Northeastern New Mexico during the dust bowl. She is well grounded in her faith and what is really important. I would like to have the wonderful combination of frugality and generosity that she has. I love that she does everything, canning, sewing, etc.

Sew Me! My mom is amazing. She passed down her passion for people. My mom is the glue that holds everyone together. She is modest and revels in being the one “behind-the-scenes” making everything run smoothly and everyone feel loved. I can only hope to be strong in her way someday!

p.s. she can sew up a storm. Definitely hope that I inherit that someday :)

I, too, have been hit by the sewing bug last year. It all seems like common sense, until you sit at the darn machine and birds nests and straight lines be damned. I will never, ever underestimate the power of a talented seamstress! Hey, that’s what it gives me seamSTRESS!
