Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

    SEW ME!
I feel blustery even saying it, but I think I’m near the 10 range. I was a fashion major in college and spent the last 7 years as a professional seamstress in handbag and accessories design. I left that job last year and now am sewing just for me – and my machine just kicked the bucket! I’m craving some sewing time… Nerd alert!

I think I’m about a 3. I made pillow covers out of cloth napkins. They turned out okay as long as you don’t look too closely at the seems. My husband, on the other hand, is a sewing genius! He has made 4 Halloween costumes for my sons (Luke, Yoda, a monkey and Yoshi).

I was an 8 as a teen – had to sew all my own clothes. Now I’m reduced to a 5. I don’t think I have the same patience that I had as a teen, or the same desperation. What I sewed had to be wearable!!

I’m a 1-2 but I’d love to be an 8-9…my middle school home ec class didn’t help and growing up all I could do was sew my ballet ribbons and elastics with white waxed dental floss….now my hubby has to attempt any lost buttons. I need to perfect my skillz!

I’d say I am a solid 5 going towards 7 depending on the project. I have a 1976 Singer machine that I use all the time, but was just thinking I could probably use an upgrade. Much as I love my current workhorse, it’s limited in what it can do. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I would place my sewing ability at a solid 5. With a quick internet search, or help from a good instructional book, I can shorten sleeves or pants. I can certainly make a bag, curtains, and things I find irresistibly cute for my even cuter nephews. Awesome giveaway! I LOVE your blog, thank you for inspiring me! Merry Christmas.

    SEW ME!!!

I’m about an 8 on the sewing scale, I’d say. I’ve been sewing since I was a teenager (no, I’m not going to tell you how long that is) and I really enjoy it, but the last few years I’ve had to put sewing on the back burner because my trusty old Kenmore sewing machine from the sixties (no, I’m not that old, I bought it second hand) has developed a hitch in its getalong. But oh, the things I could do with a shiny new machine…

I’m probably a 5. I have basic skills, I’ve made a few things before. I’ve made some pillows and bags, I made a pretty neat messenger style bag with no pattern, and the only oopsie was the strap was sewn upside down, but it still looks good! It was my first time doing a lining or a strap like that. I’m working on my first quilt right now, too!

I’m a 0, but I desperately want to learn! My mom, a master quilter, probably ranks around 11, and I think she’s always been disappointed that I never took to sewing. Now that I can see more creative/practical applications for the skill, I’m ready to give it a try!

I am a beginner, for sure. I have to reread the directions every time I want thread the bobbin or needle. I CAN sew, but not well…like I can fix something in a pinch, but it won’t have straight lines. lol. This machine would be awesome to have. Maybe I’d sew more, if I wasn’t so intimidated byt threading the needle.
