Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

    SEW ME!
I’m probably a 3 – can sew a button back on or fix a hem but by hand. I’ve never used a machine but would love to be able to make my own bits and pieces for our house. Plus love that this comp is international! I’m in the UK.

SEW ME! I luv to sew – all kinds of things. I been sewing most of my life and really enjoy it. I have sewn fitted garments, draperies, fancy pillows and baby cloths. Right now, I am into tote bags. Lots of gifts! I would say I am an 8-9 on the scale.

I’m just a medium (maybe 4) but I think my current machine is what limits me, so I’d like to have new one ;)

I think I’m a 3-4, thanks to my grandma lessons, but I would love to be able to practice :)

And that Singer sewing machine is so me! I would say I am around a 6. I have just moved into a new flat and I would love to have that beauty to whip up some curtains and a couple cushions! Fingers crossed that it finds its way to sunny South Africa.

In total honesty say I’m a 5 (but my husband thinks I’m a 9), meaning that once I made a skirt for myself that I wore in public.. until my mom saw me and said “not extremely bad, but people can totally notice you made that by yourself, so stop ruining the fabric and take it to a qualified seamstress”. My sewing machine is at least 20 years old, it is Russian and you could totally mistake it for a chainsaw if you heard it from another room. I really hope I win this beauty, because I blame the sewing machine for the skirt failure (of course).

I can sew a wonky bag but once attempted an “easy” dress pattern and had to be rescued by a much more competent seamstress. I know just enough to be dangerous I’d say…

I’m probably a five on the skill scale (tongue twister, anyone?) – I can follow a basic pattern, and I’ve made a few things that are not too shabby, but I’m far from a seamstress extraordinaire. I currently use an Elna machine that is literally older than I am (and I’m almost thirty – shh, don’t tell!), so I’d LOVE a shiny new Singer to pimp my stitches!

And thank you thank you thank you John & Sherry : it’s the first time I play because the prizes are not often shipped worldwide. I know you do your best for that and thanks again!

I’d say I’m a 3 or 4 – depending on the day. I’ve made a couple of cushion covers (out of old pillow cases, so sort of half done for me…) and I can take in trousers or tops. Oh, I did manage to sew some velcro strips and fabric into a circus coat a few weeks ago for a burlesque show! On a borrowed sewing machine. I’d love to actually own one. Sniff.

At the moment I am attempting to sew my daughter some Old Macdonald puppets for Xmas on my mums old sewing machine (which she has had since she was my age, about 32 odd years ago!). So I think the machine makes about a 1!
