Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

Much to my mother’s sorrow, I didn’t inherit the sewing gene…I’d give myself a 2. But I get great ideas and think that I can pull them off!

As long as I have my confidence (my husband or mom) standing behind me while I sew along, I am about a 3. However, my husband knows his way around a sewing machine and is probably a 6. He’s made far more things than I have on the machine these past few years…

I am probably a 5. So just average. I started sewing before I was 10. Made lots of my own clothing but never advanced to making suits or tailored blouses. Make mostly household items now.

I’m thinking I’m in the “wonky bag” range ;) For sure not much beyond the 3 category. ;) Would love to become a proficient seamstress – or just aim for being able to create the “basics” well, doesn’t even need to be anything fancy. ;)

SEW ME!!!! I’m about a 7. I’ve been sewing for years, but mostly simple things–quilts with basic piecing, jammies for the kid and now grand kid, curtains and other home decor stuff. My oldest Singer (a model 12) was made in 1874.

I’m a scant 1. I can scarcely remember learning a wee tiny bit in the 7th grade…and I’m 31! But with a 10 week old and a 21 month old I sure would love to learn to sew some projects for them! This would be AMAZING!

I would rate myself around a 5 or 6; an advanced beginner. I can make the basic stuff, but still have projects that I get so frustrated with I have to just walk away for awhile and let off some steam.

I’m somewhat good with a sewing machine, especially being that I mostly taught myself and “wing it” half the time on things I don’t have a guide for (like the stockings I just made). I’m no expert and my stitches are RARELY straight but hey, I can make a pillow, stockings, curtains, and little baggies, so what more could a DIYer want? :P

I’m probably a 7-8… I took a sewing class when I was a kid and for a good while made a lot of my own clothes when I was in my early 20’s. I have done as much sewing in the last few years but I’ve found myself pulling out my hand me down machine rectly for a slew of babies! The machine I have belonged to my Granny and I received it probably 15 years ago. At that time it was probably 10 years old or more. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was as old as I am ;)

I’m with Sherry in the 3 club (with seam ripper on hand) …so maybe more of a two :) I would love to learn more sewing skills on a machine but the 1980’s versions I tried to learn on years ago couldn’t help me make a “wonky bag” if I wanted to-HA!

I’m probably somewhere between a 3 and a 4. Can sew a straight line and follow a (very) easy pattern, but lack the confidence to attempt larger projects.
