Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

SEW ME , ME and ME! Lol! Hi Sherry, John, Clara and Burger! Happy Holidays! :) Re: SEWING – I’m a 2, I had sewn a sleeveless sporty shirt for my toddler by hand (first attempt to sew, i know, quite ambitious, right – but I was leaning on a pattern!) and even he complained upon trying it! he said, what is this mommy? i don’t like it! argh. hahaha.

    SEW ME!!!!

I like to think that my sewing skills are somewhere in the 6 to 7 range. I have sewn dresses, stockings for christmas and a number of small things, but I’m not sure I have the patience for a big project. :)

I’d say I’m about a 4.5, but I could probably be better if I had a machine that was young enough that it could still do more than straight stitches in only one length and tension.

SEW ME! I JUST took a 4 week sewing class with a group of friends and honestly, threading the damn bobbin and setting the machine is the most challenging part. I’m a 1.8, but desperate to improve! A machine like this is not a practical purchase for my family right now…Here’s hoping!

SEW ME! I am somewhere in the middle and a little nervous to win this giveaway since I do all my sewing on a 1904 Singer (peddle and all) and an early 70s version. I got the 70s version because I wanted to zigzag and my mom taught me to sew on the same machine. She wasn’t ready to give hers up but . . . I am ready to try a new one if I get picked!

I’d put myself around a 7… I’m a fashion grad from FIT, so can make everything from the basics to evening wear, and I’ve been re-upholstering for years. …but I’m also re-doing one in every 3 zippers because I always set them in wrong…
I’d love a new machine! I’m still using the clunker I bought back in the late 90s and could really use an upgrade!

    SEW ME!
I’m a 10! My mother taught herself to sew on a basic Singer sewing machine when I was 11. Then she taught me to sew and set me loose sewing all my own clothes (except for prom dresses, which she would make for me)by the time I was 13. I have many fond memories of hours spent poring over patterns and going to the fabric wharehouses in Little Havana (Miami, FL) during the summer to pick out really nice fabric to make my clothes for the next school year. She taught me to sew so well that no one knew I made my own clothes. And I loved that I had “designer” clothes that I designed myself.
When I was in my 20s my best friend and I went to a one-day seminar on making your own patterns. The two of us were unstoppable after that class! We could go to the mall, try on clothes we liked, then go home and copy it. When my kids were little I made all of their clothes – including a 3-piece suit and tie for my son.
Right now I have a 20 year old Singer sewing machine that has a few fancy stitches, but my husband has been bugging me to get something newer with more choices. If I win this machine, we’ll both be happy!

SEW ME! Well I guess I would rate myself at about a 7 as I can do most things given time. My old machine is a test of my patience though and winning this one would be amazing. I did just run up a couple of curtains to replace crappy old blinds. They look a lot better and keep the rooms much warmer. I used to do much more sewing when my kids were younger and I had more patience.
