Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

SEW ME! And can I be a zero? Because my kids look at my questioningly when I say I will hand sew a button for them. I think the last time I used a sewing machine was Junior High Home Ec around 1990!

I’m definitely a 1, maybe a 1.5…my mother on the other hand is at least a 7. Maybe she’ll teach me her magical ways. Haha :)

    SEW ME!

I once sewed a believably decent satin clutch with removable self-fabric rose pin out of a few old shirts I had — this with no real sewing training (just my mother saying, “do this”), very little experience (a few aprons and an ambitious ‘simple’ wrap dress), and no pattern.

I just looked at the way my store bought clutches were constructed, and mimicked that. It had a knife pleats on the front and back, piping along the edge, and contrasting lining complete with interior pocket (no zipper, though).

It wasn’t perfect, especially since the old Brother sewing machine I used had thread tension issues. But I aimed high and managed something nice enough to carry to my sister’s engagement party.

    So, 7, I guess?

SEW ME!! I’m maybe a 5. I do alright with patterns but can’t do much without one…although I did make my husband a Pippi Longstocking outfit for Halloween one year (without a pattern) and it turned out pretty well! ;-)

For sure a 2 :). I made a small lap quilt last year…it’s cute, but the seams are falling apart. Threading my sewing machine makes me twitch a bit!

Thanks for the chance to win!

Sew me!! I am probably a 6 on the sewing scle. I have a machine that is about twenty years old and is on its last legs. It was cheap when I got it….but it sewed me a quilt once, window treatments, a few pillows etc. mostly I pick out fabric and then never get around to the project.

I do not know how to sew a button. The really sad part is my mother is a retired home ec. teacher and my sister sews for a living. I guess I just like to play outside too much. But hey if I win this machine I promise to sew lots of things and send you photos.

I almost got a ‘C’ in home ec in middle school because of my poor sewing skills. Our only assignment was to sew a knapsack type backpack with pull strings. I didn’t realize there were special pickers to get stitches out and went in with scissors. I made a huge hole. There were tears.

I would love a second chance!

This giveaway is soooooooo (or should I say, Sewwwwwwwww) timely as we were just doing a “Table Topic” card (yes, we are the family from the land of dorkdom) which read: If you could learn a new skill what would it be?….and I responded— sewing!!! It’s been so (sew?) convienient to not learn since my excuse was not having a sewing maching, but perhaps if I win………. ;)

I’m somewhere between a 3 and a 5 on the sewing spectrum. I took a couple of sewing classes when I was 8 years old–I made a sweet denim vest (it was 1989, after all), a Christmas stocking for my baby sister, and a drawstring bag–but I haven’t done any serious sewing since. I’d love to have a sewing machine so that I can finally make one of those college t-shirt quilts!
