Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

SEW ME! I consider myself a 4.5, but could probably be a 6-7 with a decent sewing machine!!

My self rating is a 6. Most recently made Anastasia & Drizella (Cinderella’s step sisters) costumes and my 3 daughters Christmas dresses. Would love a new sewing machine with more nifty features!

Sew me because i’m less than a 3, a solid 2 but only if the needle is threaded and the bobbin is wound properly.

SEW ME!!! I’m a proud 2. My experience in 8th grade home-ec gave me the skills to sew a straight-edged pillow slipcover, and a very wonky couch slipcover.

SEW ME! Probably a 5 – the older I get, the more impatient I get (wait, isn’t that backward??)with just “getting it done already”, so the easier the machine can make this process, the more likely I am to use it!

I would say I’m a 3 as well. Good enough to cobble something together (that a more experienced seamstress would giggle at).

I’d say I’m about a 2 on the sewing scale. I don’t own a sewing machine, so it’s kinda difficult to practice, but when using someone elses, I find I’m a bit of a lead foot on the “accelerator” :p

I’d probably rank myself at somewhere around a 6 maybe? I’m self-taught, and probably do things incorrectly, but I’ve sewn elaborate Halloween costumes, hemmed all manner of curtains and garments, and more recently, made polar fleece appliqueed-monogram Christmas stockings for my husband’s family! But I still make silly mistakes all the time, so…6. Hahaha!

I’d say I’m about a 4.5! My mom made my sister and I go to sewing camp a few summers in a row, and I had to accompany one of my students to home economics one year. I’m a bit rusty, but if I could re-perfect my skills of making an all pink jumper dress with my initial embroidered on the front, it would be swell (Shout out awesomely cool 9-year-old me!)

Sew me! I am a 2 only for the fact that I performed emergency surgery on my 2 year old daughter’s favorite stuffed elephant which she calls Eye since she can’t pronounce elephant. My parent’s dog tore one of its eyes off so I sewed the eye shut and sewed on a pirate’s eye patch. Now her “Eye” has an eye patch. Ha ha!

I’m a 1, maybe a 1 or 2. I can get by with a lot of iron-hem tape, sew a button and small holes in socks. But I am terrified of using a sewing machine – or at least the 15 year old one my mother has. I really want to conquer this and learn to make things.

I’m about a 7 I guess. Been sewing since I was a little girl and make a ton of things . . . a bit challenged in the measuring and cutting department. I make a lot of mistakes!! Currently using a machine that my parents gave me for my 21st (almost 20 years ago) which is on its way out. Would love a new machine!!!
