Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

    SEW ME!!

I’m probably about a 7 or 8. My sewing machine is a basic old hand-me-down from my mom, but I have managed to squeak out some curtains and various other craft projects. It’s just about on its last legs, though. :)

I rank around a 2 and would appreciate winning a sewing machine that won’t get me all tangled up – maybe I could aspire to becoming a 10! Thanks for the international give-away.

SEW ME! I’d rate myself around a 5 on the sewing skills spectrum – I can sew nice bags, purses, pillows, and some basic clothes for the kids. I can also make some cute stuffed animals. Thanks for the giveaway!

SEW ME! I’m a 1 but have dreams of learning to sew. They’re just so expensive that I can’t bring myself to buy one without knowing that 1- I can be self taught and 2- that I’ll get my money out of it. I’d love to win one… it would solve both of those barriers! :)

    SEW ME PLEASE!!
I’m probably a 3. Took sewing in Home Ec eons ago (showing my age as I dont believe thats taught these days) and had to make an outfit..Ha! Most of my “sewing” lately has been with fusible webbing since after borrowing my mom’s 30+ year old Singer that’s so gummed up the straight stitch looks more like zig zag. Refurbishing would probably be more costly than a new “One”. SEW ME!!

I’m probably around a 7. Way way way out of practice on pattern usage but I can wing it and whip up all sorts of stuff including an operable cloth diaper.

I have had my first and only sewing machine, a Singer, 20+ years now! My mom and aunt gave it to me for Christmas when I was 14 or 15. It still works and I will never get rid of it but a new one would be fab.

A new sewing machine…that’s “sew me!” I’m about a 6 on the scale of expertise. My latest project has been making those game day dresses for my college student daughter (& others) with just my 1986 model machine & my good looks (haha!)–no pattern, per se–just winging it, and they’ve turned out great! I’ve even learned how to do a blind hem stitch on the machine.

I hated hemming so she had agreed to do it but changed her mind after she caught me saying really mean things to my younger brother’s friend. It was possibly the worst punishment of my life at the time but I’m grateful now lol)

I thought I was a solid 5 or 6 [never followed an official pattern, but managed to create some fun purses, patchwork skirts, & tie skirts over the years] but after skimming previous entries I’m starting to doubt optimism. I mean I’ve avoided sewing a buttonhole for the past 13 years, after all. Maybe a 4?
