Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

    SEW ME!

I am a 2. I dont have a machine or I’d self teach myself up to a 3 or so…I once made my daughter’s entire sea horse costume using only stitch witchery and hot glue. It was a hot mess.

    SEW ME!!!

I’d say I’m a 6, very capable of making decorative stuff but I can follow patterns pretty well. As long as it doesn’t get too crazy.

On the scale… I’m not even on the scale. I’m like negative 5. Which is why I need such an awesome machine to help me out.

I am most definitely a 1, however now that we own our house, there are so many things I would like to do!

    SEW ME!

I would consider myself a five, even though I’ve made some fancy things in the past (with a pattern, and lots of cursing trying to figure out the pattern, and even more cursing of my oh-so-basic machine). I have sewn a Strawberry Shortcake Halloween costume, and even a fancy satin 50’s style party gown (with a gathered skirt and halter top!). I do avoid anything that calls for a zipper (hence, going for a 50’s style dress–all pearl buttons, baby!) because my current machine is so basic, it didn’t come with a zipper foot, and it’s so old they don’t make the parts and accessories for it anymore!

I’d say I’m a 6- I have a lot of skills from doing piecework in a costume shop but have not made many garments from start to finish. A fancy machine would certainly motivate me to try it!

SEW ME!!! I can’t wait to get back to sewing! I bought a sewing machine in college for $300. That was super expensive for a college student. I’d say I’m a 4 but with some practice could easily get up to a 7.

In the past I’ve been completely CURSED when it comes to sewing machines – it’s like they speak an entirely different language! A ‘simple’ one sounds too good to be true! But I’d love to use one… it would one-up all my iron on hems ;)

SEW ME: I’m about a 6, mostly quilts, home decorating, hems, and crafts. Haven’t tried to make clothes too much however I did make my daughter an outfit when she was little. This would be really great to give to my daughter because she is learning how to quilt right now. We are lucky to have a long legacy of quilters in our family……

I’m in Canada and it seems like I never get to enter contests! I’m probably a 4 on the continuum – I’ve made curtains and re-sized a few shirts, but I’m using my beloved Gramma’s sewing machine from the 60s that starts the instruction manual with “Dear Homemaker”. I’d love a fancy new machine to flex my sewing muscles!
