Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

    SEW ME!!

Hello, you cute couple! My daughters and I love to read your blog. I ordered books for them, also. The book turned out even better than we imagined it would.
I can sew a straight line, and feel good about that! But my oldest daughter an I want t learn to quilt, so this machine would be good timing!

SEW ME! Probably a 1. The last time I used a machine was in middle school Home Ec. class. Yikes. But I see all kinds of cool projects to use a sewing machine and I think how much I’d like one.

Maybe a 2.5, although I just made lavender-stuffed sachets with some of my hand-woven cloth. The first had pretty wavy seams, but the next turned out OK.

I’m a 0. Potentially even crossing into negative territory. But my sister and I resolved to learn together in the New Year, and this would be a great tool to do so, especially because it will help us recruit our already sewing-savvy friends to do the teaching!

SEW ME! I give myself a 2. I made a cooling head thing one time, but I never could work out the tension on my mom’s sewing machine. I’d often end up with a hug bird’s nest or thread. I’ve been thinking about buying myself a machine for the past two years, but I’m a little overwhelmed with which one to choose.

Sew Me! I would consider myself about a 5. Don’t give me any button holes or zippers please. Just sewing straight is fine by me! I would absolutely love a new sewing machine. Mine is 23 years old. I would then pass mine down to my daughter.

Sew me! I’d say I’m probably about a 4. I could definitely make a bag (one year I made a ton of them out of juice pouches) I can do buttonholes and sew a straight line. I’ve even done a zipper. But I’ve not tried to make anything with a pattern yet, so I have a lot to learn.

I rank as a big ol’ one on the sewing scale! I can handstich buttons, etc. fairly well, but I have NEVER used a sewing machine in my life! I need to learn, though, since we have a baby on the way.

Speaking of which, John & Sherry, you were in my weird pregnancy dream last night. I dreamt that you “house crashed” my house, but then I realized after you left that I had forgotten to show you the kitchen. I had them page/intercom you at the mall (??) to come back to take pictures of the kitchen, but apparently I was at the wrong mall. Dreams are so bizarre! Esp when pregnant, I am finding!!!
