Fab Freebie: Save Room For Cake

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Our lucky winner this week is… N Shirley (whose favorite dessert “to both make and eat is Virginia Apple Pudding – even makes the whole house smell good!”) Sounds delicious. Congrats!

We’ve had a few questions about why all contests aren’t open to international readers, so here’s that info for you. We actually ask every single vendor who approaches us to do a giveaway if they’ll ship internationally and we remind them that the more folks are included, the more exciting it is for everyone. We LOVE you all and always want to open our giveaways to as many people as possible! It unfortunately comes down to each company’s policy (some folks are set up to deal with customs/shipping internationally while some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – even if it’s just a book or a gift card). Sadly, we can’t change companies policies, and if we held out for international prizes and rejected everything else, we could no longer host weekly giveaways – which we’ve done for years. Hope that makes sense! We’ll continue to do our best to include as many of you guys as we can (we’re so glad this cookbook is open to Canadians too!).

With Thanksgiving just days away, think of this week’s giveaway as a warm up to all of the delicious food you’ll be stuffing your face with come Thursday. The mother-daughter team behind Philly’s Brown Betty Dessert Boutique is celebrating their new cookbook, The Brown Betty Cookbook, by giving away a copy along with $100 towards Terrain, whose wares appears on the cookbook’s pages. So if you’re like us and drool equally over amazing desserts and stylish kitchenware, you’re in luck. Seriously. I think I got a sugar high just by looking at some of the pictures.

    Favorite baked dessert? Wow, too many to name, since it depends on my mood, etc. … Probably anything with chocolate or hazelnut or coffee flavors. Or all three together.

    Or the Guinness chocolate cake (or cupcake) with espresso cream frosting recipe from A Mingling of Tastes.

    Or, during this time of year, just about anything made with pumpkin.

    Also, I’m a belated convert to the joys of bread pudding (which always sounded totally weird to me as a kid – Think of all the wonderful bread pudding I must’ve missed out on over the years!) …

    I love all dessert, but my favorite is a tie between cookies and nisu, the Finnish bread my family makes for the holidays. Delicious!!

    “Cake Me!” The best cake ever is Waldorf Astoria or better named Red Cake.
    My dear mother would labor over making me this delicious cake. The recipe called for several ounces of red food coloring to which would end up all over the kitchen…and her. She really hated making this cake but would do so every year at Christmas just for me. The best part was the icing that was made by cooking flour and milk to a paste and adding the powdered sugar–yum!!
    Mom passed away less than 2 months ago of uterine cancer. I will never forget her sacrifices of love.

    CAKE ME! Love just about any baked desserts.. oatmeal cookies are an all time fave. Around this time of year, I spice those up with a lil pumpkin and extra spices. YUM!

    That was great of you to explain. I’ve always appreciated that you specify who the giveaways are for because then I can either join in or get excited for some other lucky person (being Canadian makes me more international than I feel sometimes).

    Bread pudding with hard sauce gets me every time, but for cake, the most amazing cake I’ve tasted was a simple sponge set in vanilla sauce with raspberries at a lovely restaurant in Ireland.

    I love anything chocolate that is baked. I love to bake and can eat my weight in chocolate chess pie, derby pie (gotta represent my Derby city of Louisville, KY), brownies and cookies!

    My sister is an aspiring baker and loves to bake our family treats…I can’t complain! My favorite item she has baked for us is a chocolate cream pie…to die for! I’d love to win this for her!

    Cake me! My favorite baked good is Symphony brownies – they are brownies where you out Symphony candy bars in the batter and they are so addictive!

    Cake me!!! My favorite baked dessert is whatever it is… Before its baked. Cake batter… Brownie batter… Cookie dough… I prefer it straight from the bowl on a spatula.

    Cupcakes! I am an insane cupcake lover. My favorite is a strawberry lemonade cupcake that my sister made for my wedding. But I’ll gladly sample any flavor cupcake out there.

    All my favorite desserts are homemade.

    Cream cheese pinwheel cookies with pineapple or cherry filling, crust-less pumpkin pie ( it has jiffy mix in it!),
    and my very favorite: Crisco icing with peanut butter mixed in!
    I love the holiday desserts my Mom makes! :)

    My all time favourite baked dessert is New York style cheesecake. When it’s made good it’s melt in your mouth delicious. And yes I’m from Canada can you tell from my spelling of favourite. Glad that this giveaway is open to us as well.

    My all time favorite baked dessert is pumpkin cheesecake…but fresh, just out of the oven, chocolate chip cookies are a close second! Yumm!
