Fab Freebie: Save Room For Cake

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Our lucky winner this week is… N Shirley (whose favorite dessert “to both make and eat is Virginia Apple Pudding – even makes the whole house smell good!”) Sounds delicious. Congrats!

We’ve had a few questions about why all contests aren’t open to international readers, so here’s that info for you. We actually ask every single vendor who approaches us to do a giveaway if they’ll ship internationally and we remind them that the more folks are included, the more exciting it is for everyone. We LOVE you all and always want to open our giveaways to as many people as possible! It unfortunately comes down to each company’s policy (some folks are set up to deal with customs/shipping internationally while some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – even if it’s just a book or a gift card). Sadly, we can’t change companies policies, and if we held out for international prizes and rejected everything else, we could no longer host weekly giveaways – which we’ve done for years. Hope that makes sense! We’ll continue to do our best to include as many of you guys as we can (we’re so glad this cookbook is open to Canadians too!).

With Thanksgiving just days away, think of this week’s giveaway as a warm up to all of the delicious food you’ll be stuffing your face with come Thursday. The mother-daughter team behind Philly’s Brown Betty Dessert Boutique is celebrating their new cookbook, The Brown Betty Cookbook, by giving away a copy along with $100 towards Terrain, whose wares appears on the cookbook’s pages. So if you’re like us and drool equally over amazing desserts and stylish kitchenware, you’re in luck. Seriously. I think I got a sugar high just by looking at some of the pictures.

    CAKE ME! I love cheesecakes best or lemon bars. Lemon bars are super special birthday presents because they are time-consuming.

    Cake Me! Love Love Love our family’s from scratch home-made chocolate cake recipe, and from a gal who prefers vanilla over chocolate any day, that’s saying a lot.

    CAKE ME! I die for apple pie. I only make it for the holidays because when its in the house i eat it for breakfast, and accompanying every other meal.

    I love, love, love German Chocolate Cake! And caramel chocolate brownies are a close second. They would be even better if someone else would wash the pot I melt the caramels in!

    How do you choose! I am a dessert*aholic. ONE I really like is a WASC cake with a layer of raspberry and a layer of lemon curd, covered in vanilla buttercream.

    My grandma has a famous chocolate cake recipe (fudge frosting!!) – it’s always the first thing to grab at family reunions.

    Cake me! All time favorite baked good is mostly based on nostalgia- my grandmother makes the BEST candy cane cookies, red and white cookie wrapped and twisted, sprinkled with crushed and powdered candy cane.

    My favorite backed dessert is cheesecake! As a child I always requested a cheesecake for my birthday cake. Looking back, I’m sure my mom really appreciated that :)

    Cake me! Brownies with a layer of caramel and peanuts on top and then a layer of chocolate and pretzels on top of that.

    I’m not a big sweets person and don’t bake that much either…I sound really boring right now. I like sweet potatoes a lot though!!!

    I’m a dessert lover and therefore could never pick a “fav.” To me dessert is seasonal as is all food. So for now,I don’t want a lemon meringue pie for Thanksgiving. Bring on the pumpkin cake, spice cake, apple and pecan pies.

    I really like baked cobblers or crisps. But a good german chocolate cupcake hits the spot at times too. Yum!
