Fab Freebie: Save Room For Cake

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Our lucky winner this week is… N Shirley (whose favorite dessert “to both make and eat is Virginia Apple Pudding – even makes the whole house smell good!”) Sounds delicious. Congrats!

We’ve had a few questions about why all contests aren’t open to international readers, so here’s that info for you. We actually ask every single vendor who approaches us to do a giveaway if they’ll ship internationally and we remind them that the more folks are included, the more exciting it is for everyone. We LOVE you all and always want to open our giveaways to as many people as possible! It unfortunately comes down to each company’s policy (some folks are set up to deal with customs/shipping internationally while some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – even if it’s just a book or a gift card). Sadly, we can’t change companies policies, and if we held out for international prizes and rejected everything else, we could no longer host weekly giveaways – which we’ve done for years. Hope that makes sense! We’ll continue to do our best to include as many of you guys as we can (we’re so glad this cookbook is open to Canadians too!).

With Thanksgiving just days away, think of this week’s giveaway as a warm up to all of the delicious food you’ll be stuffing your face with come Thursday. The mother-daughter team behind Philly’s Brown Betty Dessert Boutique is celebrating their new cookbook, The Brown Betty Cookbook, by giving away a copy along with $100 towards Terrain, whose wares appears on the cookbook’s pages. So if you’re like us and drool equally over amazing desserts and stylish kitchenware, you’re in luck. Seriously. I think I got a sugar high just by looking at some of the pictures.

    I can’t choose just one favorite… but my mother-in-law’s Italian Cream Cake is ah-may-zing. Worth every calorie in that cream cheese frosting!

    CAKE ME! I live in the south now, but grew up in Pittsburgh and I so miss the Shop ‘n Save cakes with whipped cream icing. I have not been able to find anything that is anywhere near as good. Whipped icings are not all created equal!

    Cake me! Carrot cake baby! With raisins and walnuts and cream cheese icing :). It ismy dad’s fave so I learned to make it ( Joy of Cooking!) and it has become my favorite too :). And i may or may not skimp on frosting the cake just a tiiiny bit so I can big ol spoonful all to myself :). Mwahaha #perksofbeingthecook

    Cake Me! Do I have to pick just one? Molten chocolate lava cakes, my Mum’s chocolate chip cookies and Portuguese custard tarts are my favs.

    It used to be red velvet cupcakes. Now it’s a tie between red velvet cupcakes and the peach cobbler cupcakes my (baker) cousin invented for our Virginia wedding!

    My favorite indulgence is chocolate meringue pie, a family tradition that shows up at every holiday & disappears rather quickly. If any is leftover, it’s even better the next day.

    Cake me! I seriously can’t say no to cupcakes. I’ll eat any cupcakes but my favorites are probably orange citrus or carrot cake (we had both at my wedding and they were so.good.)

    CAKE ME! I’m from Louisville, KY where the Kentucky Derby is hosted. My favorite dessert is a local specialty, the Derby Pie! It’s a type of chocolate/pecan pie but a little more bready and less gooey. The “Real” Derby Pies come from a local bakery called Kern’s Kitchen. I know a lot of people make them themselves too, but it’s just not the same!

    CAKE ME! Chocolate cake with peanut butter icing…or creme de menthe brownies…or maple walnut scones…oh I don’t know. Just make it sweet and leave the fruit out of it. Unless it is pumpkin pie. Then we’re cool.

    CAKE ME! I love to bake so this list could go on and on. But my favorite are the Christmas cookies that I make every year – chocolate crinkles with peppermint. I only make them at Christmas and to me, they are the real sign that the holiday is here!

    Anything with a pastry crust: pies, strudels, etc.

    I love the animal ornaments on Terrain’s site!!! So cute! (a little pricey though…) Guess I know what I’d spend that gift cert. on!

    CAKE ME! I love LOVE my mom’s homemade peanut squares. I’ve tried buying them in bakeries, but they just don’t taste the same. And I’d make them at home myself, but I just don’t seem to get to it with a toddler and newborn at home. My mom just made me some for my birthday this month. I love that woman (and for more than just her baking skills). :)

    Cake Me! All time favorite? That’s hard to narrow down- anything chocolate is pretty high up the list, especially brownies. But probably my favorite is my father-in-law’s cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. The pudding mix in the dough makes all the difference. Yummmmm.

    Cake me! My favorite is chocolate cake with yellow frosting and sprinkles. It was the cake we had on one of my most memorable birthdays during my childhood…and I’m having it again this year :-)

    I’m a baking fanatic! I really love making a 4 layer chocolate cake with chocolate filling with chocolate ganache and sprinkles. It’s almost chocolate overload, but so delicious!

    I love Creme Brulee. I bake a LOT (according to my kids not enough and according to my pants too much, ha!) and I collect cook books so this is right up my alley.
    BTW, were you obsessively checking Instagram yesterday watching for Katie Bower’s birth updates like I was? I must have checked every ten minutes.

      Yes, I was glued to Instagram! She was also texting me and called me in the middle of the night when she had the baby! Best night ever! I was so proud of her.
