I’ve had three–oh yeah, I said three–serious car accidents in my life, and each was on a different Valentine’s Day. None of the accidents were my fault, they’re the only car accidents I’ve ever been in, all three cars were totaled. I just quit driving on V. day after the third crash. This morning, my husband dropped me off at the subway station. He’ll pick me up this evening after work, and we’ll make a nice meal together and celebrate not having to worry about injuries or insurance agents or worse.

We thought our little family of three would escape to the cottage overnight. Our car broke down on the way here, and when we arrived the furnace had broken, and the water in the toilet was frozen solid, as were all the taps. We could see our breath in here, it was so cold. So, stranded, no heat in the car or cottage, no water, and a 10 month old. We built a huge fire, made a simple supper sans water (thanks Mom and Dad for stocking pellegrino in the pantry so we had something to quench our thirst!), I nursed my little one to sleep in her snowsuit, and we’re making the best of things today as repair people come and go! Laughing at an age where we can be online talking about how we have no running water at the moment :)
