Random.org had a tough job of sifting through nearly 7,000 jewelry hungry ladies (and gentlemen!) but has selected two random winners as… Lisa S. (who, like many, always wears her wedding ring but never gets sick of it because her husband did a great job) and SJ (who also wears her wedding and engagement rings out everyday). Congrats!
Sherry here. I don’t usually write the giveaway posts, but we’re making an exception since I was the one who twisted John’s arm into this week’s giveaway. Instead of our usual DIY & decor-related prizes, this week we’re giving away some body decor that was DIYed (well, created) by two talented jewelry designers. Yup, we have two hundred dollars worth of sparkly, sparkly jewelry for ya (or for your mom/wife/sis/girlfriend/grandma if you’re a dude).
The bling comes from two designers that I couldn’t love more (nope, I didn’t get any swag to say that – I truly love their stuff). The first is Erin McDermott, a Charlotte-based designer who studied at both my and John’s alma maters (FIT in NYC and UVA here in Virginia) and has been featured in Real Simple. Here are some of my favorites things of hers:
And then there’s Towne & Reese, whose studio we crashed earlier this year. Not only do I love their stuff, but I love that they name their pieces after their friends’ children (Towne and Reese are the founders’ daughters’ names). And get this, Clara will actually have a piece named after her in their Spring collection. Do you know how excited that makes this geeky momma? Probably too excited. You bet I’m staking out their Facebook page for a sneak peek. Anyway here are some of my favorite things from their current collection:

I almost always wear the same jewelry everyday! I really need to mix it up. I always have pearl earrings in. When I swam my swim coach would always ask if you was getting ready to go to church, but I really just love them and since they are studs I don’t notice them. I also wear a ring that is a silver band with a cross in it. I have been wearing it on my left ring finger ever since I got it and it will stay there until the man of my dreams takes it off to put a shiny diamond on it! :)

I wear my wedding band and engagement ring every day, but I also wear my Pandora bracelet. My husband (and daughter) got it for me on my first Mother’s Day, and we’ve been building it bit by bit ever since (six years). Each piece on it means something special to me — whether it be about me (a typewriter because I am a writer), a baby carriage for my daughter when she was born or some other important piece of me, my family and my life. Love it. Whether I’m in a t-shirt or jeans or dressed up properly, my bracelet is usually dangling right there with me! One day I will pass it on to my daughter and she will have the story of her mama right there, long after I am gone.

I wear my wedding ring everyday as well as a pearl ring that belonged to my grandmother :) Both of those are extremely meaningful to me. And I usually wear either a pearl necklace that also belonged to my grandmother (she lived in Hawai`i so she loved pearls and anything having to do with the ocean) or a necklace that my husband gave me our first Christmas together.

It was a horrible trip, he had the flu and I later got the worst food poisoning ever! I wish I had more jewelry to pick and choose from, but as a young mom with stretched funds and two toddlers, I usually have to stick with Forever 21 bling. I am lucky to have beautiful wedding and engagement rings and my matching extra wedding band that my husband surprised me with at the alter.

I wore a claddagh ring that my grandmother gave me as a gift when I was 10 after her trip to Ireland. It was more or less molded to my finger (I now have the fingers of a 27-year-old), until I was recently in a play and had to remove it. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get it back on. Although I’m a little heartbroken that it doesn’t fit anymore, I’m in the market for a nice silver chain on which I can hang the ring and wear as a necklace.

In 2006, my husband I went to Australia and visited the sapphire mines in the Outback. We did some “panning” for gems and I unearthed a beautiful piece of sapphire we then had cut into an oval and set in a white gold ring. I’ve worn it everyday since as a reminder of our once-in-a-lifetime trip. And since sapphire is my birthstone, it’s especially meaningful.
