Random.org had a tough job of sifting through nearly 7,000 jewelry hungry ladies (and gentlemen!) but has selected two random winners as… Lisa S. (who, like many, always wears her wedding ring but never gets sick of it because her husband did a great job) and SJ (who also wears her wedding and engagement rings out everyday). Congrats!
Sherry here. I don’t usually write the giveaway posts, but we’re making an exception since I was the one who twisted John’s arm into this week’s giveaway. Instead of our usual DIY & decor-related prizes, this week we’re giving away some body decor that was DIYed (well, created) by two talented jewelry designers. Yup, we have two hundred dollars worth of sparkly, sparkly jewelry for ya (or for your mom/wife/sis/girlfriend/grandma if you’re a dude).
The bling comes from two designers that I couldn’t love more (nope, I didn’t get any swag to say that – I truly love their stuff). The first is Erin McDermott, a Charlotte-based designer who studied at both my and John’s alma maters (FIT in NYC and UVA here in Virginia) and has been featured in Real Simple. Here are some of my favorites things of hers:
And then there’s Towne & Reese, whose studio we crashed earlier this year. Not only do I love their stuff, but I love that they name their pieces after their friends’ children (Towne and Reese are the founders’ daughters’ names). And get this, Clara will actually have a piece named after her in their Spring collection. Do you know how excited that makes this geeky momma? Probably too excited. You bet I’m staking out their Facebook page for a sneak peek. Anyway here are some of my favorite things from their current collection:

I wear my wedding band every day, of course, but I also wear my pearl earrings every day. Occasionally, I’ll take them off for something dangly on a night out, but that is VERY rare. Not sure why or how that started, but it’s been “my look” for so long, that I just feel funny without them now.

I used to wear a ring every day that was very special to me until I found out I was allergic to white gold (my husband likes to say that was very convenient because it was shortly before he proposed and ended up having to get me platinum… woops!). The ring was made with my grandmothers diamonds from a ring of hers (she passed from breast cancer) and the pearl was to signify my best friend who passed away from cancer as well. This post was a great reminder for me because I’m determined to get that thing replated in something my skin can tolerate.

While I love jewelry, there is nothing I wear every single day, with the exception of my wedding band. It is a hammered silver band with no outward decoration (although it is inscribed inside.) I don’t do diamonds, so didn’t do the whole engagement ring thing… just my simple band. I even wear it when I am digging in the garden or painting in the house; showering or sleeping. It never comes off.

I wear 4 things everyday: my wedding band, my engagement ring and my “mama ring” (the ring my hubby gave me when our son was born) all on my ring finger, AND I have an orbital piercing (one hoop going between 2 holes) in my right ear that I never take out – I don’t even know how to!

However, I always have to wear a ring on the right middle finger (I feel naked without it!). The ring itself can change day to day, but my usual is a fleur-de-lis ring my father got me from New Orleans. I also cannot leave the house without earrings (shiny studs are my go-to) and love almost anything marcasite.

Besides my precious wedding rings (duh), I wear an opal ring my dad gave to my mom when they were still married. Reminds me where I came from! I also wear a recently acquired silver mini-dogtag type pendant that says “It is what it is.” It’s a reminder of where I am today!
