Fab Freebie: Maine Attractions

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

It’s a shame we can’t take any major road trips right now (thanks to our wee one) since this week’s giveaway has us itching to head north to Kennebunkport, Maine. That’s because Spaces Kennebunkport– the shop behind today’s prize- embodies just the type of comfortable seaside home accents that Sherry and I love. Never mind that we can barely spell the name… we still want to eat up everything in their store. Have no fear if you also can’t make it out to K-town. Spaces Kennebunkport has an awesome online shop and one of you is gonna win a $150 gift certificate to spend there. Score.="nofollow">

Kenne Four Grid

And not that we’re in the business of telling people how to spend their prize money, but here are some things we would totally snag for ourselves:

Kenne Our Picks

Wanna take home some of this beachy bliss? Here’s how to enter this week’s Fab Freebie (oh, and stay tuned for a discount code this Thursday):

  • PRIZE: $150 toward anything in Spaces Kennebunkport’s shop
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MAINE ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since our giveaway sponsors reside in a fairly uniquely-named town, we’d love to know of any unique / weird / funny city names that you live in, have visited, or have noticed on a map (i.e. Love, VA; Bummerville, CA; Sweet Lips, TN)
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the USA
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Find more freebie info on our Giveaway FAQs page. Pics courtesy of Spaces Kennebunkport.

Ooh ooh ooh! I really, REALLY wanna win this time! This store has the BEST stuff!

So I Googled “weird city names in the USA and wowza, there are SO many odd ball named places! Here’s a couple that I thought were the most interesting: Hopeulikit,GA, Dunmovin,CA, Elephant Butte,NM, and Whynot,NC! I’d like to know who’s job it is to name cities and city streets ‘cuz I think that would be a fun job!

Thanks for the chance to win!

There’s a road with a haunted one-lane bridge near where I live called Booger Holler. That’s not really a place, but it’s a funny looking street sign!

    “MAINE ME!”

Growing up in Mississippi, we had tons of funny named places; Rolling Fork, Yazoo City, Kosciusko. Now I’m in Alabama and while we have our own share of interesting names, I live in a tiny place called Indian Springs Village. We incorporated so the larger cities around us would not come in and put up strip malls or fast food everywhere. It is truly a beautiful place; our home is on top of a ‘mountain’ (really a foothill of the Smokies) and we border a state park with tons of wildlife.

We spent a year in Uganda, East Africa, in a little bush town called Kiwoko (sounds like chee-wo-ko). You know, the one near Luweero :-) I’m from Hyden, KY — when I was a kid I thought it was because my town was “hidin’ in the mountains”. LOL

When I was a kid, I used to live near What Cheer, IA. I always thought it was pretty ironic, as there wasn’t much to do there. So, I always put a question mark at the end: What Cheer? … :)

Just north of us there is a town called Athol. They sell coffee cups that say, “I’m an Athol without my coffee.”

Used to drive through a town called Weed, CA whenever we drove north. Couldn’t help but feel like I was doing something wrong when we stopped there for gas.

Maine Me!! I’m drooling over those store photos!

There is a town not far from where I grew up in Florida called Plant City. It’s not the funniest name ever, but it always makes me think of an enormous warehouse full of discounted fake plants! Especially amusing to me when I see it on a map. (Oddly, the town was named after a man named Henry Plant, not after vegetation.)
In Florida, Plant City is famous for strawberries, and hosts an annual festival celebrating them. It is amazing and would make a great future road trip destination!

My grandparents used to have a summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine, so I’ve been there several times (alas, I don’t remember visiting this store, though). As for other unusual place names, I did some digging and uncovered a town called Screamersville, VA.
