Fab Freebie: Maine Attractions

***This giveaway is no longer accepting entries***

It’s a shame we can’t take any major road trips right now (thanks to our wee one) since this week’s giveaway has us itching to head north to Kennebunkport, Maine. That’s because Spaces Kennebunkport– the shop behind today’s prize- embodies just the type of comfortable seaside home accents that Sherry and I love. Never mind that we can barely spell the name… we still want to eat up everything in their store. Have no fear if you also can’t make it out to K-town. Spaces Kennebunkport has an awesome online shop and one of you is gonna win a $150 gift certificate to spend there. Score.="nofollow">

Kenne Four Grid

And not that we’re in the business of telling people how to spend their prize money, but here are some things we would totally snag for ourselves:

Kenne Our Picks

Wanna take home some of this beachy bliss? Here’s how to enter this week’s Fab Freebie (oh, and stay tuned for a discount code this Thursday):

  • PRIZE: $150 toward anything in Spaces Kennebunkport’s shop
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MAINE ME!” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … since our giveaway sponsors reside in a fairly uniquely-named town, we’d love to know of any unique / weird / funny city names that you live in, have visited, or have noticed on a map (i.e. Love, VA; Bummerville, CA; Sweet Lips, TN)
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 2nd at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the USA
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Find more freebie info on our Giveaway FAQs page. Pics courtesy of Spaces Kennebunkport.

and I used to live in Yellville, Arkansas. It was named after Archibald Yell. He offered 15 dollars to the Shawnee Indians to change the name of their town from Shawnee Town to Yellville. They changed the name, and he never paid them!

Yellville is home to Turkey Trot. It is a local festival where every couple of hours a plane flies over the festival and drops a live turkey. Tons of kids, young and old, run after the turkey and try to catch it.

It’s not a city, but we have a lot of streets here in Colorado named Kinnikinnick. It makes me smile every time I dispatch someone there. I always end up saying Kinnikinnikinnikinnick. It’s a sickness. (sickinnikness? stop me!)

I think it’s funny how some cities near state borders have names that are a combination of the two state names, like Texarkana.

I’m from Massachusetts and we love to name towns a certain way but then pronounce it totally different – it helps differentiate the locals from the visitors. ie. Worchester – pronounced Wusta

I clearly haven’t traveled enough to run into such crazy sounding places! I don’t think this name is that odd, but there have been a few occurrences where I have mentioned my hometown to strangers and they think it is made up: Sugar Land.

MAINE ME!!!!!! I lived in a town called LOS GATOS which is “The Cats” in Spanish. It is close to the Santa Cruz mountains which in earlier times,(in the 1870’s) had quite a few mountain lions roaming around. Appropriate name for this small town.

It’s not a very funny name but more ironic. I went to school in Valparaiso, IN which roughly means “paradise valley” Never understood how Northwest Indiana, a place that gets lake affect snows and who’s claim to fame is the hometown of Orville Redenbacher was paradise…but maybe that’s just me.
