Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

My most creative idea has been taking some diaper boxes and covering them with some fabric I found on clearance that matched my family room and I had storage boxes for under my coffee table!

My best idea is finding a slipcover that had an interesting design and contained all the colors of my laundry room. I stretched and stapled it across a frame I built and now it’s a piece of artwork that adds interest and length to my laundry room.

IDEA ME! The best idea I had for our apartment was to dress up a small chest deep freeze with fabric and top with vases…makes it look like a decorative choice and is still easy to get into. We’re converting our household to all-organic and local, and it’s great to have a space to stash our cowshare.

Hmm…this is a super hard question! I’ve had some very successful, creative ideas in the kitchen, like peach pie ice cream and chunky peanut butter oatmeal cranberry cookies, but my idea to use a hairdryer to make melted crayon art has been a hit, too.

IDEA ME! This isn’t my most creative idea, but I get a ton of compliments on it. I bought 3 faux pumpkins, cut a small circle in the bottom of them, carved one digit of our house number into each one and added a flameless candle. They sit on our front porch in the fall. Everyone wants a set! Thanks for a great giveaway!

I don’t think of myself as that creative … but thinking outside the box has worked well for me, especially in terms of marriage. (I married one of my dad’s best friends, which sounds more scandalous than it actually is. He’s 16 years younger than my dad — but still a good bit older than I.) I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

I wanted to figure out a way to incorporate our silk wedding flowers into our home decor, so I used some of the more neutral colored flowers on some home sewn throw pillow covers for our bedroom. It’s so nice to have sentimental things worked into the decor!

    My most creative project so far would be a wooden map I made by using a jigsaw to cut out each continent’s shape and adding some wood stain, paint, and a modge podged decorate background to end up with some awesome DIY art. {As seen here: http://studio1859.wordpress.com/2011/07/07/map-art-pt-2/ }

This isn’t ingenious, but my hubby and I have been fixing up our house. We’ve fixed our fench, removed wallpaper, painted walls, painted trim, painted cabinets. We would love to start working on our landscaping (or lack of). Thank you for the opportunity.

With our son driving us nuts by rearranging our DVD storage, we needed something different. While browsing the depths of IKEA, I found some CD shelves that I thought would do the trick. DH didn’t like the idea of stacking the DVD boxes on top of each other, until I turned the shelves and showed him that they didn’t have to stack. He thought I was a genius.

Note: I later discovered that IKEA advertises this feature and didn’t feel quite so genius anymore. I didn’t tell DH, though…so maybe he still does?? :)

Oh gosh…this is a tough one. This isn’t original but one of my best ideas I’ve put into action is when I recently re-did my master closet. I put up pretty wallpaper and a great elfa organizational system, new baseboards and trim. Turned out pretty awesome!

idea me! I started an etsy shop selling personalized stationery ad it really took off! It really had my creative juices going! The sad part was, I got TOO busy with it, and felt like it was hindering me as a stay at home mom. So as much as I loved it, I had to let it go after 1 1/2 years.

I seem to come up with a lot of “creative” ideas that often fail but my most recent one is to take our already bar height kitchen table, remove the legs, and build shelves on each side to create a rendition of a Pottery Barn craft table for the office in our new house. I really hope it works!

I don’t know – probably the house idea I get the most credit for was choosing a door with a 3/4 window to replace the plain old exterior door in our den. Everyone goes nuts for that door and it makes the room a lot lighter. Of course, we had to switch out the door because when it got to be winter and the wood retracted, we realized that what we thought were superficial scratches were, in fact cracks that went all the way through the wood. You know, when you can see daylight through your doors, you probably want to replace them!

I just saw this on an earlier comment, but I too installed a motion sensor light switch in our mudroom so I don’t have to walk across the room in the dark to turn the light on when I come in the back door. (It’s a 106-year old house, so needless to say, the light switches are not always in the best places…but the character of the house easily makes up for these little inconveniences.)

IDEA ME!! and I’m not sure if it’s my most creative, but definitely the design decision that most people seem to be most impressed with is using very ‘twiggy’ tree branches as curtain rods. They look very whimsical and by using curtain panels with tabs on top I was able to tie the curtain on to the ‘rod’ by using any available twig!

As Sherry sometimes says, my husband is the brain of our operations, so I will brag on him. We came home one day to a busted wrist weight (the kind that velcros around your wrist) that our dog had torn up while we were gone. It was filled with little tiny metal balls, and they were scattered around our living room. My dilemma was, how in the world do I clean it up?? Enter my genius husband who, being the delightful dork he his, owns a relatively powerful magnet set. He put a few of the magnets together, dropped them into a sock, and went to town collecting the tiny metal balls. Took us 5 minutes. Man, I love that guy. :O)
