Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…

Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)

I had troubles with the carpeting on my stairs so I ripped it out and now i’m in the process of trying to stain it. If that doesn’t work, i’ll paint them something totally funky!

    IDEA ME

Our creative idea at the moment was scouring goodwills for picture frames for an art wall, and then deciding to paint some with a pop of pear green which is the soon to be color of my sewing room, to help unify colors. In fact we couldn’t find the right size frame for one poster but found one of those bulletin/dry erase/memo boards that was the right size and hacked it into a frame

My most creative moment was a team-player act between my husband and I… We’re planning an upstairs dormer extension to our house (it’s a cape cod, so the upstairs has very sloped ceilings), and figured out how to add a walk-in closet and ensuite bathroom to the layout. Sweet! (and can’t wait until it’s done).

Probably not unique, but some creative home improvement things include turning our old ironing board closet into a spice rack and using some left over sample paint to give the inside of my line closet a little spice.

Gosh…I have a million ideas they just don’t come to fruition. Oh, recently we did “fake” wainscotting by adding thin 1×4 boards to our boys’ room, 6 ft high and then painted it orange above. Tiny room…lots of character

My favorite recent idea is my jewelry display. My cat loves to lose my earrings, so I wanted something out of his reach that made it easy to see all of my earrings. I got some large-ish frames from Goodwill and spray painted them either purple or yellow. I chose the smallest, purple one for my jewelry because it was easy to screw in hooks for my necklaces. I found some PERFECT yellow net-type fabric for pennies (50% off of 62 cents!) and stapled it to the back of the frame, screwed in six hooks (all from JoAnn) and called it a day. Well, after I hung up my earrings. I hung it from a ribbon, and I love it.

IDEA ME!! my best creative solution would not apply to any other person I’m sure because how many people had to have all the materials for a stone patio, fire pit and sink hole fill-in come through their front door, over their living room carpet and out the back door? my idea to protect door frames from all those wheel barrows of concrete and giant stone was to slit black plastic drainage tubes and using rags, spread them apart and “clip” them around each door frame. Also had to tarp floors and part way up the walls due to concrete splashing. beautiful outcome though!

We are currently in the process of turning a few random pieces that we had floating around into a desk! We had a way-too-low file cabinet and desk top with ugly legs and really needed a cute, practical desk! So we bought and cut a piece of wood, I stained all the pieces to match our existing furniture and we made a solid long piece of wood to act as the end leg and an open box to rest on top of the file cabinet that we could attach the desk top to on the other end to give us the height and extra storage we needed! Essentially creating a nice little nook to store our laptops! My new staining, wood gluing and finishing skills aren’t the finest, but we are just so excited that we had the creativity to dream up our own piece of furniture and actually execute it. I just hope it holds… otherwise I’ll definitely be going to Lowe’s to get some sturdier brackets! :)

IDEA ME!!! Okay my favorite “creative idea” we had involved our hand me down dining room table and chairs – both from my grandma. We love them both but the table was too short for the chairs, our legs kept hitting the bottom of the table when we sat down – super annoying. So while looking for a fix we couldn’t come up with anything that looked like it would work without standing out like a sore thumb on the bottom of the legs. So my husband had the great idea of using cabinet hardware and screwing it into the bottom of the legs… I had remembered seeing some in the clearance bin at Lowe’s – off we went! We found the perfect four (oddly enough the only matching four in the clearance bin) in the clearnance bin and they were $1 each. So for $4 we had the perfect fix, it lifted our dining room table just enough and you can’t even see them on the bottom of the legs, looks like they have always been there :)

Thanks for the opportunity, we are redoing our kitchen and would love to put that gift card towards the tile :)

Our dog loves to burrow. We searched for a dog bed that he would love, but they only make beds with “caves” for cats. Too small for him, I made him one! A dog bed with a “blanket” attached. He loves it!

ok… so it is somewhat unrelated to home DIY, but i’ve been invited to a 20s -themed costume party and am too cheap to rent a 70-dollar costume. so i found a beaded dress from the 80s at Goodwill for only 12 bucks and with some seam ripping and sewing, it’ll be transformed into THE MOST AMAZING FLAPPER DRESS EVER. ok, maybe not super-clever or creative, but i am so excited about the way the dress is turning out :-)

I think my best home decor idea was taking down an ugly cabinet in our bathroom, painting the walls teal instead of leaving them a gross pink, and getting a fresh new shower curtain and towels to match the new bright colors. I love waking up and going in a bright bathroom. I am glad I didn’t listen to anyone when they told me the color would be too dark for our small space.

My most creative idea was for my son’s nursary before he was born. I decide I wanted a picture ledge to go all the way around the room and enlisted my hubby, father-in-law, and brother-in-law to make it happen. (After lots of pictures and explainations of what I wanted.) I LOVE the end result and that the men in my son’s life helped create it. :-)

Just yesterday, I spent exactly $50.01 at Lowe’s. THIS could’ve come in handy. But I digress because the fact of the matter is I love Lowe’s and spend money there all the time. My purchase yesterday was paint for my dining room. I could use some paint for my entryway. :D

My most creative idea? Drrrr… oh here’s a decent one. I found an old wooden wall shelf with a nice architectural shape amidst the junk at a Salvation Army and ended up painting it and turning it into a fun little display in my half bathroom to break up all the blank wall space. Certainly not revolutionary, but I was proud of myself.
