Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    “idea me!!”

my most creative moment was just before i was supposed to host a booth at a high school health fair on teenage sex(i was a college student at the time). i was completely unprepared…(and yes, i realize how funny this may seem!)

literally 30 minutes before i was supposed to go the idea hit me. i would make a black mystery box that the kids would put their hand into, not being able to see what the contents where. it would be labelled “teenage sex can leave you feeling like this…” and the box would be empty! literally every kid in that school came and put their hand in the box!

While building our house, my husband and I fell in love with the brick style travertine tiles. There are two problems with this statement “brick style” -CHA-CHING-, and “travertine” CHA-CHA-CHA-CHING!” Fortunately, Lowe’s was carrying some 18″ by 18″ travertine tiles for about $3 sq ft. We bought out 3 different stores of their finest tiles (yep I hand sorted through many boxes while completely annoying the flooring guy) and took them to stone mill and had them all cut in half (so now they measure 9″ by 18″) for about $200. Huge savings and the bathroom floors look amazing!

    IDEA ME!!

I’m finishing up redecorating my study/guest room, and to help keep it clean/inviting, I wanted to move the desk into a closet and created a closet office. Unfortunately, we needed the storage space of the closet, so I partitioned off half of the closet for storage (using some adorably cheap white curtains from Target)and used a smaller desk, so I got both spaces. Rather than take out the clothing pole, I covered it up by hanging wide eyelet trim from the shelf above it.

To add a few cute touches, I printed out vintage pictures of architectural landmarks and framed them. I also made my own bulletin board and covered a few cheap photo boxes from Michael’s with fabric to match.

IDEA ME! My best of all time, hit it out of the park project was when I discovered Elmer’s glue works most excellently as a crackle medium for acrylic paint. Super cheap and easy and my best blog post of all time.

    IDEA ME!

I’m not typically very creative, but after living in my house for 7 years, I’ve finally started to make some changes and make it my own. Mostly, that’s painting and what not, but I did move a dresser into my big walk-in closet and make a dressing area in there. I even hung up a little rack for my jewelry. It’s not much, but it’s such a sweet and cozy space now, just for me.

Not sure if this counts, but I recently came up with the idea to take my kids’ breakfast “order” before they go to bed at night. That way I can get it started before they get up from bed. We write it down and the rule is they can’t change it in the morning. This has made our school mornings so much smoother and they enjoy making their choices at night instead of trying to figure out what they want when they’re half asleep in the morning. And it’s pretty much eliminated fussing at the breakfast table :)

IDEA ME again! My best ORIGINAL idea was using hot glue to make a dimensional design on a surface, mod podge tissue paper over it then paint and dry brush to bring out the design. The first time I did this I made a fluer de lis on a dollar store vase then painted it white with black dry brushing. I also use the tissue paper idea to resurface old platters to repaint as signs and on thrift store art then repaint with my own designs. It’s cheap and versatile!

Idea me! I think that my best idea was inspired by your weekly photos of Clara. I take a picture of my daughter every week next to an antique typewriter that has a piece of paper with her age in weeks fed through it. Surprisingly, the idea was hatched on the day she turned one week old and I was still heavily medicated from my emergency c-section, as well as sleep-deprived from life with a newborn. The quality of the photos has drastically improved, though.

    IDEA ME!

We repurposed our Ikea kitchen cart to serve as a changing table when our son was born. The height was perfect and it was free – well, we did buy some contact paper to cover/protect the top from poopsplosions as well as buy 4 baskets to set on the lower shelf levels. But other than that – totally free!

My best home idea was hanging multiple rails on the wall to hold ALL of my pots and pans, utensils and potholders to make room for the rest of our kitchen stuff in the few cabinets we have. It also gives the kitchen a really warm, lived in look and makes it so easy to grab a pan and get to work!

    Idea Me !!!

My wife and I LOVED having an outdoor firepit but hated smelling like a campfire every time we enjoyed ours in the back yard. We really wanted to build an outdoor fireplace, but it was one of those “maybe someday” dreams…

…until I peeked over my neighbor’s privacy fence one day and discovered hundreds (well over a thousand) of full-size, antique-old paver bricks. Free materials? Yes, please.

Three years later and we’re still loving our looks-like-it’s-been-there-forever fireplace–and not smelling like smoke when we come back inside.
