Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

IDEA ME: using the tab of a pepsi (ok, bud lime) can as a hook on the back of a photo frame. You can nail it in if it’s a heavier frame, or hot glue gun it for something lighter!

My most creative project was installing hooks in our bathroom next to the shower for our towels. They are so much more accessible!

When we were married ten years ago, a big thing instead of a sign-in book was to mat your engagement picture and have your guests sign it at the reception. So instead of a book tucked away in some box, you’d frame the whole thing and hang it. We liked the idea, but were on a budget, and didn’t want to spend money on engagement pics on top of the already $$$ weddings pics. So we went to a touristy area in the city where we knew there was a caricature artist. We had him draw a funny pic of us in black and white as a bride and groom, and that was the picture we matted for signing. It was the first thing our guests saw as they can into the reception, and always elicited a smile or laugh. It still hangs in our hallway.

When I was a kid I participated in this thing called the Invention Convention. I came up with the idea for a motorized kitty litter box that scooped the poop for you. I didn’t actual create one, but did create a model with a lovely glove holding a kitty litter scoop. Man that was ugly. But years later, guess what they sell?!?!? Self-cleaning electric kitty litter boxes!

Idea me! My bedroom is pretty small and we couldn’t fit nightstands on either side of the bed. So we attached squares of wood to the corners of the walls closest to the headboard and made floating nightstands!

I’m excited to interview my husband’s grandfather and great uncles soon about their lives, specifically their childhoods growing up on a farm in south Georgia. I’ll edit the audio and use some old family photos to create a slideshow, then give it to all the relatives for Christmas. It’s not exactly decorating, but it’s may way of being creative.

    IDEA ME!!!

My favorite and most lifesaving everyday solutions – involves the binky/pacifier being spit out on car rides.

When you kid is facing backwards in the car seat, and the car seat is in the middle, and you are usually in the car alone: Attach the binky to the top of the back of the carseat with a ribbon – i.e. tie the ribbon around the binky on one end and a binder clip at the other, and attach to the binder clip to the top of the car seat, above the little ones head. That way, when the baby spits out the binky and starts crying, you can reach back with your right hand, feel the binder clip at the top of the car seat and grab the ribbon and then the binky and get it back in the babys mouth to solve the problem (Really! You can- I used to do this all the time on my 30 min drive to and from my office with baby, whose daycare was at my office).

IDEA ME! I have an idea to paint my garage steps leading into our mud room. Although they are just steps in our garage, they get a ton of use and I’d like them to look more inviting and less just wood-steps-to-get-you-into-the-house-ish. Not an original idea but an idea none the less!

I turned a cheap white bookcase into a mudroom station. I took out the shelves, painted the back a cheery color, and installed a line of hooks to hold coats or purses. I added more on the side to hold keys and umbrellas. And I kept the bottom shelf to stash wet shoes. It’s pretty fantastic, since I have no mudroom and no hall closet to put these things.

I painted the inside of a couple of cabinet doors
in the kitchen with chalkboard paint so many years
ago that the paint stores didn’t even stock it.
They thought I was nuts when I asked to special order
it. Ridiculously funny to think of that as ‘creative’
    now.

    IDEA ME!

One year, when I had two toddlers toddling around… rather than putting up a bunch of breakable Christmas bulbs on our tree, we opted to hang our cards on the tree. So simple, so easy (so easy to take down too afterward). We haven’t needed to do it since then, but I still remember it fondly. So much so that I’m thinking of getting a smaller secondary tree to use for displaying the cards.

I have an idea that I’m working on, but haven’t fully figured out. Anyone have a good method for making ones own stencil for wallpaper-like designs out of paint? I’d like to make my own similar to the Royal Design Studio stencils that John & Sherry have on their list of sponsors! Then I can use the Lowe’s gift card to buy that wonderful no-VOC Olympic paint ;-)

IDEA ME: 450 sq feet is not a lot of space for two people to share. The most creative solution was to put a $4 metal cabinet above the bathroom ‘door’.

My favorite ‘small space’ solution was to remove the closet doors and make curtains with grommets to hang in their place so we could more easily access the closet’s contents.
