Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

IDEA ME! Hmmm, the coolest thing I can think of right now is using an old end table as a book shelf….we hung it upside down from the ceiling using chains and my daughter thinks it is the coolest :)Of course she still wants to use it as a swing…….not always the coolest….

My best idea was creating a frame for my giant painting done by my favorite dutch artist with decorative molding instead of paying the 600$ i was quoted to get it “professionally framed”

When I was in college (ELEVEN years ago geez) I used paint samples to make a mosaic on top of an old record cabinet. This was before blogs and pinterest so the fact that I thought of that myself was pretty darn creative of me I would say.

We had a lot of granite pieces left over from our kitchen remodel. My husband and I built a little BBQ island outside and fit all the granite pieces together to create a surface. We left the edges jagged rather than neatly cut. We sealed it and have been using it for the last 5 years on a regular basis. We love to BBQ, especially during hot summer months when indoor cooking isnt an option!

We have an eye level telephone jack in our family room. I put a shelf underneath it to hold the phone base. You could still see the phone jack so I placed a small chalk board on the shelf to cover it up, plus we have a place to write messages!

BONUS QUESTION: …in our bathroom, the edge of the drywall where the shower meets the drywall is crumbling/peeling from the moisture that apparently gets caught there. I want to put a row of tile around the top of the fiberglass shower/tub to cover the wrecked drywall and either grout it or caulk it in.

Using recycled padded envelopes to pack breakable items for moving instead of buying new bubble wrap. You put the items (like a plate) instead the envelopes or cut the envelopes down their seams if you need sheets of padding.

I wanted a large play/art table for my kiddos but didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars. I cut down the legs on our old (bought it new for $79 when we were first married) kitchen table and added chairs from Ikea. It has worked great!

I had some leftover 1″ glass tiles from my kitchen backsplash, plus a metal frame my mom had bought at Pier 1. Together they make a great 2 1/2 foot piece of outdoor art for my patio.

IDEA ME! One of the coolest projects we have done to date was to use 3 solid wood antique doors to cover our walk-through (not walk-in) closet spaces. Some weird architect thought it would be a great idea to pass through the closet to the bathroom, with “his” on one side and “hers” on the other. We got sick of gazing at our slightly organized duds. So we split one door in half, and paired it with another whole door to make what looked like floor-to-ceiling paneling in natural wood on both sides of the short “hall” to the bath. The best part was that my DH engineered it so that one whole closet door could swing waaay out and cover the entrance from the bedroom to the hall/closet so he could get dressed in the wee hours without the light bothering me.

IDEA ME! The creative idea I’m most proud of is painting my upstairs hallway a wild color I wouldn’t normally use. Only the family sees it (usually), and it’s so much fun to turn the corner and see the bright turquoise and the accompanying fun-but-not-what-we’d-usually-choose home decor!

I don’t really know how creative my ideas are…but, we have a DIY under cabinet wine glass/wine bottle rack in our kitchen that was not being use for it’s intended purpose, so I decided to make it a “mail station” each person in our house got their own mail cubbie, I used cute little vintage typewriter key style tacks to “initial” each one so we knew where our stuff was…so far, it’s working pretty good to keep my girls school papers in a place that can be found easily. That’s about all I have…

The window in the nursery needed something, but the already oversived window (takes up more than 1/3 of the wall) wouldn’t work with curtains (which would also hang right be the crib and that seemed like a safety hazard.

So I made a “valance” of sorts by covering a board with batting and a piece of burlap (yes, burlap. it only cost $1 too!), and used ribbon and buttons to decorate it. sounds a little crazy but I LUV the way it turned out. And so super cheap for a window treatment!

I consider myself a pretty creative person, but sadly the only example I can think of is wall mounting my cello in the corner of the living room, so not only does it not take up storage space in a closet or we trip over it on the floor, but it looks like a fun piece of art. (Pretty lame, I know. Do I get extra credit if I give you a “Hootie-hoo!!!”?)
