Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    IDEA ME!

My most creative idea? Figuring out how to get my puppy to go outside in the freezing winter without me also having to go outside at 5:30am! A little manuvering of a frozen rope leash and the sliding glass door and voila! I hook up the puppy inside where it’s warm, open the door wide enough for her to get out, and I get to stay by the air vent with the warm air!

IDEA ME!!! I love Lowes creative ideas magazine. I actually wanted to make that headboard with the weaving after I saw it in their magazine last month. Its only about $50 too, so the gift card would be perfect for it.

One creative idea was to turn an old tool chest that goes in the back of a truck bed into a storage/outdoor bench. Our college student neighbors put it on the curb so we grabbed it. Hubby wanted to sell it on craigslist but I knew it had more potential. We put casters on the bottom of it so it could move around the patio area. We also can store our hammock, other outdoor cushions and whatever else in there. It is perfect seating height and is great with or with out a bench cushion on it!

I guess our most creative thing we’ve done so far is making side tables out of produce crates from my husband’s work. They’re still in the finishing process, but looking quite nice.

my most creative idea was to use a mini-muffin pan as a paint tray for my five-year-old that loves to paint. i can put a squeeze of a different color in each muffin and they don’t run into one another.

    IDEA ME!

We were in need of a large piece of art for behind out couch. Most of the larger pieces that we liked were way out of our price range so we came up with a DIY solution. We had several large old tin ceiling tiles bought from a thrift store. We painted three of them three different colors to match the room. My husband built a frame for them and suddenly we have a nice sized piece of art for around $25!

I’m positive I was just reinventing the wheel, but when I painted my bathroom last month I would have done anything to avoid having to remove the toilet. I put a trash bag over the toilet tank and managed to squeeze the brush and roller into the tiny space between toilet and wall – ta da! I didn’t miss any spots OR paint my toilet.

IDEA ME! When my son was little, we lived in a double-wide with those awful vinyl walls. I decided to make a forest out of his room. I pulled up the carpet and laid a wood-like floor tile and painted his room a chocolate brown, then added trees. He loved it. Fast-forward about 8 years and he’s wistfully remembering his forest room. So we did it again – only BETTER! This time we had green meadows, blue skies a setting (or rising) sun and lots of animals painted on. I got the paint from Lowe’s clearance shelf – lots of rejected little pots of sample paint. AWESOME!

I’ve gone a little crazy with being creative about gifts and decorating. My favorite gift for now are home-made flower pins made with fake flowers (etsy.com/shop/skyboundduck). They are awesome for purses, shirts, hair, etc, and I ended up giving all the girls at my bachelorette one to wear and think of our friendship!

“IDEA ME” – we recently moved and with moving to a new location, so does new furniture placement and uses in new rooms. Our once tall standing black bookcase from Crate and Barrel was the PERFECT height for a room divider when we placed it on it’s side behind the couch and picked up some fabbo ORANGE trash cans from IKEA to store toys for the kids, double score! :)

We have very limited storage in our house and our familly room serves multiple purposes due to a closet that houses the washer and dryer. I created a folding/storage table from 2 big Expedit shelves (placed on their sides) from Ikea and built a table top for on them for folding laundry. We placed baskets in the shelf cubbies for extra toy storage for our kids.

I’m a big fan of the frame gallery in our master bedroom. The pictures are all random body parts (all G rated, of course) of me, my husband, and our son. I edited them to have a chocolatey-black & white finish to match the browns in the room, and framed them in chunky espresso frames. You wouldn’t think that a picture of your husband’s foot is something you’d want to look at/wake up to every day, but it totally works in this situation!

I’m reusing a LOT from my recent wedding. I’m taking the 3D fabric flowers from my dress to incorporate them into frames and in our scrapbook. The lace up bodice of the dress will be turned into a fancy corset and the skirt fabric I’ll reuse for special pillows.

The frames I used for our seating chart (8×11) we’re going to print a few photos and hang up in our weird little “hall-square” and frame a few cards and other nostalgic items that are just too awesome to hide in a box forever.

I also made the table runners and I’ll be selling 10 of them. One I will keep for a table runner for our buffet and the other larger head-table cloth I will repurpose part into a cover for our wedding album with the rest being used for other little projects around the house.

IDEA ME. I had some very cool pretty sconces my mom gave me but one had a different color light base than the other… it was bronze, the other was white. I liked the white better because you could see it through the glass (cloudy white glass) so I got the right size PVC pipe, cut it down, painted the remaining bronze and now they are the same! The lamp shop was going to charge me $100 to find the part and do it and I fixed it for like $2. Maybe the ONLY crafty thing I’ve ever done in my life. :)

IDEA ME! My most creative idea(s)always come in the form of Halloween costumes for my three girls. It’s my all-time favorite holiday and I like to go all out for costumes. They are all handmade and usually involve a theme (my girls love that they “go together”) I get tons of compliments each year and when I reveal the cost, people can’t believe it … thrifts stores, duct tape … you can make cool stuff for hardly anything!

I wanted to incorporate fabric into my paintings, and came up with the idea to adhere fabric onto a panel and paint over it, letting some of it show through.
