Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

I can come up with a creative present pretty quickly, even with my limited sewing skills. This Lowes card would come at a perfect time…house shopping!!

    IDEA ME!

My most creative decorating moment thus far is our bedtables. Our old college plastic Wal-Mart ones finally gave up the ghost and needed replacing… and I’m usually a matchy-matchy person. But my in-laws had just given us an old school desk and chair set that we were using in the entryway. I took them upstairs, put the chair on my husband’s side with his charging dock on top and our garbage can underneath (so the dogs can’t get to it) and gave myself the desk side with the storage in the desk for my books and put the dog’s bed underneath… a free and perfect makeover!

IDEA ME! There was a very strange alcove in my son’s nursery when we bought the house, so my husband and I came up with a cool built-in shelving plan and – contrary to anything else we’ve ever done – my husband made and installed the shelves himself! It’s now one of my favorite features of the room!!

One of my most creative ideas was “crock pot Sundays”. I make a huge amount of food, and set the crock pot to be ready by noon on Sunday. Feeds the whole family all day long. They graze as they are hungry. Love it!

I made a headboard for our master using fabric I found on my favorite hand bag website. Couldn’t rationalize the bag purchase, but ordering just the fabric was uber cheap!

IDEA ME! I could use any help I can get replacing appliances that flooded from TS Lee. :/ Central PA was hit HARD. We don’t live within 3 miles of a body of water and still had a foot of it in our basement. So long 4 month old washer and dryer. :(

    IDEA ME!

We’re first time home-buyers, so we haven’t gotten too creative as far as home decor is concerned.

However, I came up with a clever way to get my toddler to stop throwing his food and eat more at mealtimes. We gave up the highchair in favor of a small Ikea children’s table ($20). Now he sits at his table and eats quietly instead of tossing food on the ground. (Before now, the doggy vacuum trick hit close-to-home!)

We had an awkward space under the stairs so we built a “custom” bookshelf under the stairs with inexpensive IKEA adjustable shelving pieces.

When I go grocery shopping I get paper bags. I keep them in the pantry as recyclable containers. Then when they are full I take it out to the recyclable can and throw the whole thing in. I also use the plastic bags as trash can liners. I try to reuse most everything!

My husband and I recently built a table to go around our dog’s kennel turning it into a piece of furniture. It was our the first piece of furniture to build and I am especially proud of it because I created the plan in a 3D-CAD software and everything actually fit right when we got done.

I hated my inexpensive, rolling office desk chair (that I’ve had for about 10 years) but didn’t want to get rid of it because it’s comfy (and I’m cheap). Instead, I reupholstered it with with a glue gun and 2 yards of zebra print furniture fabric!

IDEA ME…this isn’t really decor, but I loved the idea anyway. I couldn’t find a cat box that had high sides and a top, was super large, and see-through so the cats could get enough light while ‘doing their business’, so I bought a big rubbermaid container and cut a large square in the side to turn it into a litter box with a handy removable lid. Best thing I ever did!

I let my dog Lucy act as a vaccum cleaner when I drop things in the kitchen. :-) It wasn’t so much that I came up with the idea, but I now think it’s pretty great that she’s my little cleaner. I yell, “Lucy I dropped something!” and she comes running!

One of my favorite creative projects is my tea-tag art that hangs above my kitchen sink. I am slightly obsessed with tea and the tea tags from Harney & Sons are too pretty to toss… so it was only natural to frame them! (I also LOVE the kitchen island my dad and I built, inspired by Ana White’s plans!)

    IDEA ME!!

My creative idea is certainly not an original one, but I am so happy with it. One of the biggest problems in my home is the constant addition of paperwork (ie, school papers and notices, bills for payment and/or filing, coupons .. my gosh, the list can really go on and on). I made a simple filing system by my kitchen using fun file folders and a file box. That is where all the incoming paperwork goes immediately and every once in a while I go through it for filing or throwing away outdated materials. I pretty much know that if I need some recent school notice or bill, it can easily be found there. Saves me so much time!

My best idea ever is to vacuum out our jacuzzi bathtub (with the hose attachment) before cleaning it. I have a black lab whose hair gets EVERYWHERE. I got sick of pushing around the hair when I clean my tub. Vacuuming a tub sounds insane, but it works like a charm.
