Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

Idea me! My greatest idea lately was to get a crib with a storage drawer underneath. Baby stuff takes up so much room!

    Idea Me!

Funny story: I was reading an old college roomate’s blog when she showed a handy way to keep spices organized. I thought, “That’s genius! I need to do that.” I continued reading as she told where she had picked up the idea…from me, during college, at which point I remembered coming up with it as a way to deal with the tiny space issue in our little apartment.

One of our bedroom closets (aka my dressing room) is above the staircase so the floor is slanted making it hard to store anything in there, so I’m going to add wood strips, paint it all white, and use it as a shoe rack.

I’m not sure if this is my MOST creative idea, but it certainly has made our lives easier…When we moved into our current house we realized that we didn’t have a place to store our broom, drymop, wetmop, and dusters. Well, we had a leftover hang-over-the-door shoe rack from our apartment that we no longer needed, so I hung it on the back of the door to our laundry room and hung everything from it! It’s been my favorite new use for an object since we moved in a year ago!

Recently a pretty creative idea I had was a cheap coaster solution for me and my boyfriend’s apartment. We couldn’t find any that we liked, and those that we did find were out of our price range (college students!) so I suggested something. We bought individual stone tiles from Lowe’s for only about 30 cents a piece and stuck little felt feet to the bottoms. Cheaper and more unique than traditional coasters. :)

IDEA ME! Creative idea: moved into our old house, took a mirror off the outside of the bedroom door (who puts a mirror on the OUTSIDE of a door that faces into a hallway??) and plopped it onto a dresser top & boom! Instant mirrored furniture top & totally free.

IDEA ME! Totally adore the pretty, ORB (oil-rubbed bronze) decorative flusher handle (from Lowe’s!) that I installed on my new, clean white commode for master bathroom remodel last year (removed the boring, generic chrome handle that came on it). Seeing & using that dark, flared handle installed against the white fixture makes me happy! Ha. Also, love that I thought to glam up household vases with unused/non-functional jewelery hanging from them (faux pearl strands, etc.). Pretty chic!

One thing that saves us time is setting a timer to do some quick cleaning and then moving on to something else. It helps us stay focused and allows our 7 yr old to stay on track in helping!

When we moved, I ran across a (very) old Scrabble game, probably circa 1955. Rather than leave it in a box in the closet, I pulled out a couple of the letter holders and letters, and made some words to put out on shelves and around family photos. It’s interesting and personalized, and can be changed up anytime!

I used a coat hanger from the dry cleaners (it was wire with paper at the base) to hang my earrings on! I used that darn coat hanger for years. It wasn’t very pretty but it was oh so functional!

My current favorite idea is my most recent one: I painted a large canvas black, glued on a swell piece of white textured paper at a jaunty angle, to look like an antique map, but blank. Then I used heavy jewelry wire to outline the shapes of the seven continents. (Got the map template printed out free from National Geographic Xpeditions website) Hand sewed the continents onto the canvas with clear thread, and viola! A map of the world in wire! Looks great as the focal point over our mantle.

IDEA ME and Hootie Hoo! My most recent creative idea…..I “borrowed” an idea from Pinterest where you use nesting baskets attached to the wall above the toilet tank for towel storage. I’m only 5′ tall so all three baskets made the top one out of reach for this shrimpie. I put one of the baskets on the toilet tank and it was perfection. I put towels on either side of a cute tissue holder. The wall baskets actually covered the original area where a towel rack was. I didn’t want to spackle the original holes in case I wanted to rehang them at some point…so, I got some cute wooden medallions at LOWE’s, spray painted them and stuck those suckers over the holes with rubber cement for easy removal. Kind of makes the baskets look spiffy!
