Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    Idea me!

My most creative moment… I was stuck at home one day no car and ran out of diapers for my wee one. I took one of those cute cloth diaper covers and lined it with maxi-pads. :)

As for the house… my most creative moment… was letting my teenager put “black light” bulbs in his ceiling fan and paint the blades of it funky florescent colors. It’s neat to watch it glow as it spins at night.

    IDEA ME
Whenever I’m painting a room and the paint has dried before I get around to pulling off the tape, I run a utility knife along the tape where it meets the wall. That way when I peel off the tape it doesn’t pull any paint off the wall.

    IDEA ME!

As a graphic designer it’s hard to pin-point my single most creative idea. Recently at a work “talent expo” I decided to showcase some creative cupcakes and other baked goods as my “talent” and everyone loved the idea -and the desserts- so I think that was pretty creative all around ;)

oh my gosh IDEA ME. I get creative ideas all the time, I just can’t carry them out so much :)

I was given a bunch of large pieces of foam padding (the kind you put in a case, and then knock out squares to make a custom case for your camera/other delicate equipment) so I took two and wrapped each one in a crib sheet and made headboards for my boys. Keeps them from bonking their heads, matches whatever bedding I am using, perfectly sized for their beds, and easy to clean. A third I treated the same way, but am using as a diaper changing pad. Much cushier than the standard ones, and I can still fit a waterproof pad to it.

Idea Me! Just got a “new” 1950’s house that needs every surface touched…most creative idea so far has been to turn a mini blind in our bathroom into a roman by using fabric scraps from an old project…can’t take credit because I found it on pinterest but I was impressed with myself that it actually worked! :)

I wanted patterned curtains, but just couldn’t find the right ones for the right price. So I found a tablecloth with a darling pattern and made my own window panels for my living room! It looks so much better with a fun pattern!

    IDEA ME!!!

I have been using a leaf blower to “sweep” out the garage, so much faster and easier than a broom. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before. Also we just covered our garage steps in heavy duty industrial carpet to help keep the house a little less wet and dirty when the snow begins to fly.

Try toothpaste on your next bug bite. Takes the itch away. Came up with this one when I was a kid and now 20 something years later I am slathering toothpaste on my own kid’s bug bites.

    Idea me!

When my son was a little boy he loved playing with toy cars and airplanes. Especially airplanes. Play mats for cars with roads and such were easy to find, but play mats with airports weren’t. So I painted the back side of a scrap piece of linoleum. It had roads, parking lot, 2 runways, taxiways, a terminal, and a place for the control tower. He loved it!

I tried to be very minimalistic, sooooo I don’t have too many creative household ideas. I’ve purchased a book for .01 and for shame I removed a couple pages for framing. I also got rid of all my DVD cases and put my DVD’s in sleeves instead. Another, is using a funky chair made for the outdoors and put in my room instead.

I up-cycled two cork boards, adhered them to the exposed end side of a High Kitchen Base Cabinet and then spy glued an Ikea “ANNO STRA” Curtain/Panel. I finished the edges with aluminum angle. Turned out superb with a clean custom

IDEA me! I think my most creative moment was the shutters. I was at a friend’s house when she was getting rid of some outdoor shutters. I looked at the shutters and instantly saw the wall deco center I’d been craving (we lived in an apt where I couldn’t hang things on the walls…) I cleaned, spray painted white, and then propped (upside down) the shutters on my desk. I used giant black paper clips to attach and hang my favorite pics and pieces of inspiration. Voila – decorated wall, hole-free!

    IDEA ME!!!

I think my best idea is that I have finally learned to buy older pieces of furniture for a reasonable price and refinish any piece to make it personalized for me! It means so much more to have furniture in my home that I have put the time into rather than just buying a piece already prepared from a store.

Idea Me! Our house has cathedral beamed ceilings. An ambitious spider decided to make that spot his home. I couldn’t stand it and our ladder wasn’t tall enough to reach the cobwebs. My idea was to take our feather duster and put it in the end of a pvc pipe and then ‘dust’ the ceiling getting rid of all the cobwebs. My arms got quite the workout but it worked really well.
