Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    IDEA ME!!!

One crazy clever home solution I stumbled upon on a recent pinterest binge was:

using a rubberband to loosen a stripped screw!!!! easy-peasy just place the rubberband on top of the stripped screw and press the head of your screw drive into the screw as usual…the rubberbrand fills in the stripped areas and gives the grip you need to loosen that mashed up screw! so helpful when taking apart old furniture and any other beat up screws we come across in our DIY-ing. =)

    IDEA ME!

After peeling all those amazing fall apples for applesauce and pies, the red, yellow, green, burgundy peelings were too pretty to throw away. I dried them and use them as a filler for glass vases during the fall. Smelled great too!

Idea me! I needed to decorate 3/4 way around my Christmas tree and I would always move it and break an ornament. This year I put my tree in a galvanized tub that was fitted with castors. Now I can wheel it around without breaking anything!

    IDEA ME! :)

A few months after getting married and moving into our first apartment together, just after we had gotten settled and I was getting ready to decorate, my husband’s company went under and I found myself with zero money to decorate! So I got the bright idea to unfold brown paper grocery bags and tape three together to make a huge canvas (which I then carefully crumpled and uncrumpled for dimension). Then I added red flower petals made from cardstock, feathery stamens from more torn grocery bags and permanent marker, and painted on stems and petals. My paper mural is still hanging over my couch four years (and thankfully a well-paying job) later, and I get a ton of compliments on it. :)

Can’t think of anything in particular but I am good at using what I have and making it work. It is always fun to go into the garage and stare at the misc. items until something finally jumps out at me.

Most recent creative moment: I found frame at a thrift store that looks like a window, so after a few attempts at updating it, I settled on painting the glass with chalkboard paint to make a fun message board for our kitchen.

We had a bunch of scrap wood left over from a backyard project that our HOA nixed. (We we’re going to build a patio but I guess nothing can be connected to the house?) While not my idea, my husband repurposed the wood to build a seating area, complete with benches, table and slatted wood surrounding the benches. Its awesome, if I say so myself. :)

Hootie Hoo! Idea me please!! Certainly not a genius idea by any means, but this weekend we inherited some fantastic wingback chairs. They are fantastic, but didn’t really seem to have a natural “fit” in the house. Inspired by your unconventional dining room, I gave the chairs a spot in my dining room and love it!

Most creative idea: moved the front door of our house, which made the dining room the entry, and made the living room much bigger and just right for a giant flat TV. It would make much more sense if I could draw a picture.

Spray paint has become my most creative best friend! Seriously, that stuff can make anything look good and make me feel like the most creative person ever. From re-creating thrift store lamps, to giving a side table new life, to taking tacky brass dresser hardware and making it new and fantastic. I heart spraypaint.

Idea Me! Hootie Hoo! I think my bet idea so far was to take our old over-the fridge cabinet and re-rurnish it as a train table for my son. We added a peice of sanded plywood to hinges and it became a perfectly sized play table with a secret drawer under the hinged door and had two perfectly sized doors in the front for fabric bins. Love your blog. You guys are my gurus!
