Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

Haven’t done it yet but I am hoping to make a chandelier for our kitchen out of cheap silverware. Each layer will be a different type of utensil (ie knife, spoon, fork). Here’s hoping it will happen soon!

I think my best idea to date is covering blank canvases with cool fabric as wall art. Super cheap and easy to change when you get bored with the fabric selection!

    IDEA ME!

my favorite idea involves the piano and a house with limited closet space. the only interior wall space for the piano was against the wall onto which the front door opens. I had to line the piano right up against the frame for the front bedroom in order to let the door open ~2/3 of the way. This left a space about 12″ wide between the piano and front wall of the house, but that would also be behind the door when it opened. i snagged a piece of scrap wood (with four pretty grooves down its length!) from a friend’s junk pile, had another friend cut it to the appropriate length, sanded, primed, painted, and attached three mismatched brass hooks from the local construction warehouses (ReBuilding Center in Portland OR and the local Habitat ReStore). Tada! Jacket storage! I don’t even care if they drip on the floor in the winter. Making use of “dead” space is awesome.

Best idea ever: We installed a cat door in the wall between our bedroom and hallway. It got rid of the cats scratching our carpet, wining to get out and always having to leave our bedroom door open…Priceless!

    Idea me!

When we tackled our very first flip project last year, our kitchen had a very odd upper corner cabinet unit. It stood out and was a horrid view when you came in our front door. So, while we left the rest of the kitchen cabinets the wood finish that they had (Blah…going to paint them and remedy someday), I chose to paint that corner unit white, and took the doors off the front. The 2 doors were solid glass, with a wood framed border. So, I took chalkboard paint, and painted the glass and then painted the frame a gorgeous turquoisey-ish blue. Hung it in my kitchen and stenciled the days of the week in paint on the chalk board. Now I have this super cute meal chart as part of my kitchen decor. And other than the paint it didn’t cost a thing :)

I had the idea to change the color family that we were planning to paint our kitchen after we had tried 4 different types of paint (full gallons) that we thought we liked but hated when we painted more than a swatch. We went with a green that I found instead, and the wife actually loved it! Boo-ya!

    IDEA ME!

My son says my best ideas are gifts & party activities. When he had a detective party, I’d set up a trail of clues around the neighborhood so the kids could solve the Case of the Stolen Cake and Party Bags. These 8-year-old boys (with accompanying moms) were sneaking around like little secret agents from clue to clue and even caught the attention of an NYPD officer, who asked my planted friend what was in the envelopes that he was furtively handing these little kids (“birthday-party clues, sir”). The officer ended up playing right along, interrogating the kids about their police work. And, of course, all their detecting led them to the hiding places of the cake and party bags back at our home.

I wanted to save the old coathooks I found in a closet in our new house, and the beautiful (but destroyed) detailed carving on the crown molding in the dining room–so I made a coat hook board with a detail of salvaged crown molding across the top. Hangs in our front hallway and pays homage to the history of my home.

We tore down part of our deck, and had to create a 4 foot wall around our backyard pool. There was a low rail on one side that we turned into a high-backed bench. It looks great and you’d never know it wasn’t the original intent!

I think my most creative ideas come out at work (I’m a 4K teacher.) I definitely find ways to be resourceful with limited funds and lots of ideas to accomplish! :) Just last week, I made a game (pinterest inspired) with tweezers, pom poms, and the nice cage-free egg containers. The kids love it and it was VERY inexpensive!

IDEA ME! This is a very simple and not especially creative idea, but it makes a tremendous difference to me in the kitchen. I keep all the recipes I print out in page protectors in a binder. When I use a recipe, I take the page protector out of the binder and tape it to my kitchen cabinets. This keeps the recipe clean, puts it at eye level, and keeps it from taking up counter space, which I don’t have much of.

We go to this great Reclaim shop in Pittsburgh- Construction Junction- whenever we visit PA. We’ve found a bunch of amazing stuff there for our on the cheap renovations. One of our more creative uses of reclaimed materials was using old door knob plates as light switch covers for our dimmer switches (the dimmer switch goes through the knob hole).
