Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

IDEA ME!! I’m usually pretty creative with my son’s birthday parties and design my own party invitations. This year’s Yankee’s theme was a huge hit.

My best idea was removing the sliding doors to a hallway pantry – it was in the stairway leading down to the basement – ripping out the old tile and cheap, rigged up shelving, painting the whole shebang, refinishing the maple flooring and hanging Elfa in there. It’s bright, clean, and easy to find everything – no doors needed!

IDEA ME…my most creative home decor moment was when I saved an old, spiderweb covered cabinet from my parents garage, took out the metal doors and instead covered them with a cute fabric (from U Fab of course) so I could hide my cable box behind it and still use the remote! I also covered a lampshade in the same fabric to match!

This may not be uber creative- but my household short cut is a laundry sorter that has 3 compartments so as each compartment gets full I can start a load. Helps me keep up on the endless task of cleaning and folding thoshe clothes!!!

IDEA ME….probably my best ideas centered around my wedding that came together in 3 weeks (after being moved up due to my mom’s health). My favorite one was using bricks that were painted to look like restaurants and bars in Baltimore (or then city) as table names!

    IDEA ME

I was just about to finish putting together my lone fan in my 90 degree NYC apt when I realized that the screw that keeps the fan blade on was missing! I was not about to take a 40 min round trip bus ride to get a replacement so I started looking around my apt for a substitute. Five minutes and four twist ties (from my trash bag box) later I was enjoying the breeze from my fan.

We found a spot where there is “sea glass” (including large pieces of coca cola bottles and glass with some letters). I hope to collect enough to put around a mirror. Not an original idea, but the mirror will be special since we found all the glass pieces.

I use a letter/file organizer that I got for $4 at Walmart to organize my pizza/cookie stones, cutting boards and breadmaker cookbook, all things that used to be a giant mess on top of my microwave. It still makes me smile whenever I see the tiny corner of organization among the mess of my kitchen.

    IDEA ME!!

Well…. I spent two years teaching in Northern Ontario on a remote island reserve. We were given curtains for our windows but no curtain rods. There was one store on this island and it didn’t sell much so I had to improvise. Oh yeah, and the internet was down a lot so I couldn’t even google an idea! I went into the forest and found a few big long branches, limbed them as best I could and proceeded to thread my curtains through the branch. Then I hung up the branch using those 3M sticky hooks. It was a conversation piece for two years!

IDEA Me! So I like to think I’m creative, but most of my recent creativity has been stolen via pinterest. Some of my best ideas were creating a chalkboard from an old window, making a basket a chandelier, and collecting driftwood from our spring flooding to make a piece to hang over our mantle!

IDEA ME! My current dream project is this closet system a-la-Ana: http://ana-white.com/2011/04/master-closet-system. I want it to go floor to ceiling and have drawers along the bottom. I want at least three of the drawers to be slide out laundry basket-type things (colors, whites, jeans). Something like the Hol side tables from Ikea but shorter and squattier and they would have drawer slides so they would easily roll in and out. I will be spending a lot of quality time with my Kreg jig to build it. You’re jealous, aren’t you John?

IDEA ME! And I think my most creative idea was working a ping pong table into the design of my home. We didn’t have space for an actual ping pong table so we painted a sheet of plywood green on one side and covered the other side in decorative panels from Ikea. It leans against the wall and when we want to play ping pong we put it on top of the dining table and attach an easily removable net. I knew it worked with the design of our home when our kitten climbed it and a friend grabbed him and told him “I think that’s art….”

My most fun and creative project was with my wonderful mother. Right after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2002, she completely re-did the entire living room with “cancer-fighting” colors. We also had this HIDEOUS coffee table that was as old as dirt. It had 4 cutouts for glass inserts and the rest was a dark wood. She and I decided to mosaic the wood! We got a bunch of discount tiles and broke them up into tiny pieces! (very stress relieving for my mom at the time… beating the crap out of a bag of ceramic goodness) Then we re-did the whole table. It was awesome! We also did our own version of stained glass our front window. The neighbors were very pleased. :-)
