Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…

Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

My most creative idea was to store items I need at hand in decorative vases. I have my expo markers in a cobalt blue vase so it is a work of art. You can’t see that there’s markers in there but they’re out, ready for use!

    IDEA ME!

Just last night, I found one of my kale plants broken and lying on the ground. I wanted to use up all the leaves so they didn’t go to waste, but I didn’t want to make my usual kale chips recipe. So I adapted my friend’s recipe and roasted the kale with large flakes of coconut and a little bit of soy sauce & sesame oil. It’s making for a great snack at work today :)

My most creative idea in the kitchen was for what we have officially named the “Italian Pasty”. My husband is from Michigan’s upper peninsula where a pasty is like a meat and potato pie. We changed it up to have ground turkey, rice, marinara sauce, and cheese. It is an amazing update to a U.P. classic.

    IDEA ME!!

I’m a renter and I had purchased short bookshelves from Target for an apartment but then moved and did not have the same type of space to be able to use the bookshelves. I also did not have any bedside tables because my previous space didn’t have the rooms for them. So, I decided to put a short bookshelf on either side of my bed and use them as bedside tables. It has worked wonderfully for almost 3 years now, and the best part was the bookshelves were a steal when I got them!

IDEA ME! My earth shattering idea that I came across a couple weeks was this….(brace yourself)

If I keep the house picked up during the week (i.e. 5 minutes), it takes SO much less work on the weekend when I try to vaccum and dust…Who would have thought? :-)

I once dragged an old kitchen cabinet from the curb into the house, framed out the top and added a glass top with fabric underneath, cleaned it up and painted it, and now we have a fancy schmancy toy storage cabnet that holds a ton but looks more console-y than toy box-y.

IDEA ME! My old house had horrible kitchen cabinets that had a diamond pattern etched into them. My boyfriend at the time (now my husband) was able to sand the etching off as it wasn’t too deep and then we painted the cabinets white. A cheap alternative to new cabinets and they looked great!

    IDEA ME!

When we renovated our kitchen last year we moved some cabinets around to make room for a dishwasher. We ended up with an empty space, however, and didn’t have a cabinet that would fit in the space. We had older cabinets, and we were worried we wouldn’t be able to find a door that would match the other cabinets. My idea was to build an open shelf cabinet with an old laminate bookcase that was the same color as the cabinets and use some of the leftover trim from the original cabinets to frame the front of the cabinets. It worked! You couldn’t tell that is wasn’t like the original. Of course, if I could of just convinced my husband to paint the cabinets white the whole solution would have been a lot simpler. . . he’s such a wood snob.

My idea is dinner related. I love to find ways to use a rotisserie chicken. I will buy one and then make all kinds of things until it’s clean to the bone. Chicken fajitas. Chicken and rice soup. Bbq chicken sliders. Chicken Salad. And many more.

For my wedding last year, we went with a sort of ‘beer’ theme, since we were getting married at an old brewery-turned-venue. We brewed our own beer and designed logos for the brews. The logos were printed on pint glasses and were our wedding favors. They’re totally awesome and my mom still claims “drinks taste better out of a Captain Kate’s Amber Ale pint glass.”

Well my fiance and I have a great idea to turn an unused landing into a movie-viewing niche. We have vaulted ceilings in the living room and a display area/landing on the 2nd story that faces a giant wall on the opposite side of the living room. We want to have a custom cushion made for the space and project movies onto the wall for some “floating seat” movie-viewing action. :)

I had been searching FOREVER for the perfect shelves to go in my dining room but never really found anything that was a *must have* or that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. When I stumbled across Shelley @ House of Smiths tutorial for creating her white shelves I about died. They look just like the ridiculously expensive cafe shelves from Ballard Designs, but at a fraction of the cost! I bought the supplies and with the help of my wonderful finace, I made my own!

    IDEA ME:

one of our most creative ideas was taking a boring lamp shade out of a target lamp box, and tacky gluing pages from our favorite book series (harry potter) to the exterior. once those pages dried we mod podged over it to give it a shiny finish.

now we have a really cute, unique lamp shade, instead of a generic, white one! :)

I needed more seating on my back porch and we had just removed a door from the basement closet (it wouldn’t fit after we put new flooring down) and I made a comfy day bed by propping it on the existing bench (that was too narrow) and some cement blocks. I also covered it with an egg crate and pillows.

I fail at coming up with my own creative home decor ideas (which is why you guys are my life-savers for inspiration!) but I do pretty well in the kitchen. I have 3 roommates and we could never tell whose food was whose in the fridge and freezer, so we came up with the idea of using those colored circle stickers from the office supply store. We each have our own color and just put a sticker on any of our food before putting it in the fridge after shopping.

Would love a giftcard for all the projects I’ll need to do on the house I’m buying in Philly!
