Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    IDEA ME!!

My favorite creative project thus far was turning an old guitar case into a desk for my boyfriends music room. I put fun stickers from bands or places we had visited and then attached three wooden legs that I spray painted white. (one at the skinny end where the neck of the guitar would be and two at the wider base to keep it stable) It’s not the biggest surface to work with but he loves it regardless!

My most recent creative project was building a bookcase into the hollow wall under my stairway (in my living room). It’s cute, in the corner and perfect place for books.

You know how so many women have purses full of paper- so much so that they can’t even find anything? Well I take pictures of it all with my iPhone, and never let the stuff in my purse in the first place. I don’t take receipts at restaurants, and I just take pictures of all of the flyers at work/ church / park district/ etc. Every time I sync my phone it all gets backed up, so I don’t have to worry about losing everything either. It makes for a nice and decluttered purse.

I cut a piece of that rubber like shelf liner to put under my cutting board to keep it from slipping on the counter top as I was chopping. It works really well.

IDEA ME! This past weekend my sister and I decided to get our families together for dinner at her house to enjoy her gorgeous backyard and the beautiful weather. But none of the regular grilled food items sounded very good to either of us. We thought everyone making their own personal pizzas would be fun, so why not throw those on the grill. So yummy! We were uber proud of ourselves.

I’ve been helping (“helping”) my boyfriend decorate his new home — a creative solution to a massive, unused dining room was to convert it to a mini-library, complete with reading section by the windows. The boyfriend actually liked that idea as much as I did!

IDEA ME! My most creative idea was painting horizontal stripes in our office. My husband swore to me the stripes wouldn’t turn out right and paint would seep through because our walls are so wavy and not level. Thanks to Frog Tape, a credit card, and a tip I found to paint a coat of the base color over the Frog Tape, I have the most perfect horizontal stripes you could imagine! I was proud to be able to tell my husband, “I told you so!”

I love to save plastic & glass food containers (yogurt, spaghetti sauce, etc.) to repurpose them around the house. Glass jars help organize my husband’s screws, nails, etc. in his tool closet. Plastic containers for leftovers & a container for oxi-clean (I bought a 14 lb box for washing cloth diapers and get baby poop out of clothes but don’t want to pick that heavy box up every time I use it :) )

We bought a $5 coffee table at the Goodwill, a big ol piece of foam, and made a super cool upholstered ottoman. It’s awesome, and totally adds a punch of pattern to our room, b/c we chose a Moroccan tile print fabric. Fun!

My ultimate creative idea was making smoothies of foods that already taste great together: like carrots & French onion dip, celery & peanut butter, or cheese pizza & ranch dressing. I’ll let you know that they all turned out repulsive, so you can save the time of trying it yourself. Hey, you didn’t specify that our creative ideas had to be any good! :)

Idea Me! I don’t have tons of creative ideas, but am DESPERATE for some shelving in my laundry “nook” (seriously, smaller than your’s)- there isn’t a shelf to be had, so all of the laundry/cleaning junk is just sitting on the washer and dryer… making me crazy!

I’m not sure what the most creative thing is, but one I really like is the necklace holder I made for my bathroom, because I have a TON of necklaces. I found black grid cookie cooling racks, and nailed them to the wall. I then made little hooks by clipping on and bending black bobby pins.. it works perfectly and costs way less than something I could have bought somewhere (plus, I haven’t really seen anything like it that holds all your necklaces so you can see them anyways).
