Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    IDEA ME!

Well, one idea that seems to really help a lot is installing a magnetic door stop to the door that leads from my garage into my house. Since I usually enter the house through my garage, it got really annoying making multiple trips, with hands full of groceries, fumbling to open the door without dropping everything. So I asked my darling husband to install a magnetic door stop: Just open the door, and it stays open until I close it. And although I haven’t come up with a creative trick to minimize the number of trips I have to make to and from my trunk with groceries, the magnetic doorstop has been a lifesaver! :)

…Using an pretty gold-rimmed old serving plate as a jewelry holder. I am able to keep my earrings & bracelets out and showcased on a beautiful old plate that was passed down from my bosses deceased 94-year-old italian mother. I also have that lovely reminder of her everytime I pick a piece of jewelry to wear. =) Bellisimo!

I bought Folding table that stores flat on the wall and modge podged a pretty vintage map on top. No one would guess it’s a table unless we tell (or play a game of cards)

This is so lame, but I realized I could keep cords together with a twist tie in college. Out of the way, a bit cleaner-looking, and as cheap as it gets.

    IDEA ME!

We recently upgrading our bedroom furniture and decor. I had a difficult time tracking down affordable draperies that had a fun pattern. I somehow ended up in bath department at Bed, Bath and Beyond and spotted a fabric shower curtain I loved. I bought them along with a fabric shower curtain liner (to block out the light), sewed them together and hung them up with drapery clip rings. I also used a 20% coupon on everything so my “custom” draperies cost about $36 each including the tiebacks/ tieback hardware. Score!

    IDEA ME!

I wouldn’t call it my MOST creative project, but it is the most recent one. Last year I bought a $75 multi-line clothesline to use for our daughter’s cloth diapers. It lasted 6 months before the line started breaking (dang it!). So today I made my own clothesline for the little “alley” side-yard. I put up some eye hooks on the fence and the side of the house, put up a rope cleat, attached one end of the rope to a carabiner and then zigzagged the rope through the eye hooks and ta-da, a clothesline! It’s awesome and a lot more heavy duty than my old store bought version.

Idea Me! My most creative moment was figuring out that Glad Press N’ Seal works perfect as a ‘drop cloth’ when painting doors still on the hinges. Just press the sticky side to the carpet, tile, etc. and it stay in place, even when you swing open to doorm without bunching up like a cloth would.

We needed to fill a large wall with art. We decided to buy a big canvas and put our 3 dogs in finger paint, one to a color and be creative. We laid down a big painting tarp and kept throwing treats around. It turned out amazing and we get more compliments on it than any print in our house.

IDEA ME! I had been looking for a bench for my front hallway. When I started to plan the painting of my downstairs bathroom I realized the ugly old cedar chest that had been stored in there was perfect! I sanded and painted it, make two cushions from the guts of old sofa pillows and fabric I had bought for something else. It fit perfectly!

I bought awesome demask fabric from an antique store, covered our $10 craigslist headboard with it and had the husband raise it up 20+ inches with scrap wood. Now our super tall, cloth headboard makes our master bedroom look very Domino-esque.

The best creative idea I’ve come up with lately was re-purposing some 50 cent painted wooden cutouts for artwork in my baby boy’s room. I wanted nursery artwork on the cheap, so I picked up some transportation-themed cutouts, glued them on brightly colored cardstock, and put them in IKEA natural wood frames with ivory colored matting. The colors stand out, and my son loves to look at them from his changing table. A lot of people ask me where I got them, and I take pride in telling them I came up with the idea myself :)
