Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    IDEA ME!

When we mounted our flat screen we now longer needed our too deep tv stand. Not wanting to spend a bunch of money but still needing somewhere to house our electronics I re-purposed a small dresser that was just the right depth. After stripping, staining, and adding new hard ware it turned out perfectly and only cost me $11!

We starting utilizing a much unloved towel hanger as a magazine rack in the bathroom. Simple, but solved the problem!

IDEA ME! My best/most creative idea was to bring home a third dog last year…. saved her little life at the shelter (she has heart problems and no one wanted to take that on) and she has fit completely seamlessly into my house and truly made me feel like me and my “furkids” make a family :)

IDEA ME! I painted a mural of the Chicago skyline on the walls of our guest room. It took me a couple of hours to tape everything off (I sketched the design onto a piece of paper first) and then a Saturday morning to paint it (4 coats!). I was never good in art class, so I’m super proud of this creative streak.

I was given a china cabinet that my grandfater made – it did not go with our dinning room decor so I turned it into a bookshelf by taking the glass doors off and toy storage in the kids game room. It is perfect as we have tons of books and the drawers and cabinets have lots of storage space. And I get to see my children enjoy it and know their Great-Grandfater would love it too.

The best bit of genius we’ve come up with lately is the voice-activated light for our bedside table. The instructions said to program it to respond to “Computer on,” which we dutifully did. But lately our magic light has been answering more to “Anita on,” than anything with computer.

Don’t even ask how we discovered that little trick! Exhaustion makes you do funny things :/

When I lived in a dorm I had about 5 permanent mirrors around that couldn’t be taken down or damaged and they were highly annoying so I got some expo markers and decorated them with inspiring messages and all sorts of fun doodles. Made it fun and not so boring all the time and wiped right off.

I don’t know how creative this is, but one recent mini-home improvement we made is putting an extra shelf in the laundry room. There was one shelf above the washer and dryer and then all this wasted space up to the ceiling. So we finally put one more shelf up and voila! Tons of storage space. It allowed me to finally clean out the extra bedroom so we can turn it into a nursery! Definitely made my week, every day I’d walk in there and just admire the organization and function of it. :)

My most brilliant idea lately was redrawing the plans for the upstairs of our new home that is under construction. I didn’t like the original plan, so I moved walls and expanded some areas to allow for nice sized bedrooms and double sinks in the kiddo’s bathroom!

Those shiny purse hooks you can buy in the checkout line at Bed Bath and Beyond? I bought them my freshman year of college. For five years they’ve held everything from towels (under my lofted bed), to jewelry (to use the underside of a shelf on the wall), to purses (for storage in the closet), to scarves (also closet storage) and they are currently holding kitchen brushes on the shelf above my sink. The most useful $5 I ever spent!

One of our pups recently had surgery and has to wear an Elizabethan collar, which he HATES. I realized that if I put peanut butter on one finger and hold it in front of the cone, he pushes his head through on his own to get his treat! No more wrestling the plastic cone of doom onto his head :)

I definitely got my creative juices going for our Old Hollywood themed wedding. We were married at an art deco theatre and I found a movie poster marquee with blinking lights on ebay. We had our own movie poster made for the big day from a vintage-themed photo shoot and the name of our movie was “New Years Newlyweds.” It was a definitely a big hit!!
