Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    IDEA ME!

My husband and I found 6 canvases on super clearance at Joanns so we decided to make our own wall art. My husband created an image of an octopus on Illustrator then divided it up into sections that were in scale with the canvases. We then drew the 6 pieces out and created our wall art. It is such an inspiring piece to our office.

    IDEA ME!

I had an ingenious idea to get furniture for our kitchen by asking my old job (on the border) for their old bar stools. I just threw some wood polish on them and some ORB paint on the legs and voila! New barstools!

You guys are great by the way!

My creativity comes out in the kitchen. The most successful idea was my son’s last birthday cake. My mom and I designed a motocross cake and it looked completely awesome!

Idea Me! I think the most simple (maybe creative) thing I do is drop 10-15 drops of essential oil on a cotton ball and put in my vacuum canister before vacuuming. My favorites are lavender and orange, it makes the whole house smell so good, which is great when you’ve got three hairy dogs and two cats :)

    IDEA ME!!

During our recent move I labeled all of the cabinets in the kitchen so that when everyone was unpacking our kitchen (which I knew would happen) people could just put the stuff away without needing to ask me where to put it and I knew where to find it all until we removed the stickers.

Oh, shoot, I forgot to say “Idea me!” above. Is that one disqualified? For real this time:

IDEA ME! I don’t really think of myself as creative, but an idea that just kind of jumped out at me but impressed my friends was putting a cookie sheet on the rack below freezer pizza. That way the crust gets cripsy from the circulating air like the directions suggest but you avoid the possibility of melted cheese in the bottom of the oven.

    IDEA ME!

designing my daughter Clara’s room from scratch! it’s the first time I’ve been able to do that (all the other rooms had some old furniture etc that had to be worked around). we ended up picking the paint color first, a bold “lilypad green” (martha stewart paint), and then picking out furniture and art in modern styles and jewel-toned hues to coordinate. it’s out favorite room in the house and it was so cool seeing vision turn into reality (using a mood board!!).

Most recently I built a console table using reclaimed wood that was not at all square. To fill the gaps I used shims, which added an interesting texture.

I wanted to create a couch for my kids playroom that would be their size…so I built a version of a toddler-sized daybed and modified it to be a couch. Re-used the no-longer-needed crib mattress and got to use modern fabric that matched my decor instead of Dora or Princess!

We just bought a house and it had a nearly teal tub. Instead of painting the tub, we painted the walls (that were silver and gold wall paper) a dark blue and it really made the tub much less screaming teal! It was amazing!

2 months ago, I broke out my hubby’s drill and level, (along with my own pink safety glasses), to install a closet-organizing system in our small, only-one-shelf-and-hanging-rod master closet. It was completely unsupervised and unauthorized by my husband, but he was so proud of me and LOVES it!

I covered old, worn laminate countertops with colorful wrapping paper, to bring some style to my kitchen. The paper was coated with ~15-20 coats of spar urethane, like you might see on a restaurant bar top. Six years later, they are still the coversation piece in my house, and require only a bit of upkeep.

Hm, I’m thinking the idea to convert our dresser to shelves. The drawers were constantly falling off the tracks and it was a huge pain to use. Now we have the two small drawers at the top (which were framed out so don’t fall off their tracks) and three deep lower shelves. So much more useful!

I feel like 90% of the “creative ideas” I have these days are really just a product of my Pinterest addition, but in general, I think I’m most creative behind the camera when we’re out and about traveling. I love that my photos are a cheap, personalized and pretty way to update our house without breaking the bank every time.
