Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

    IDEA ME!

My most creative idea probably has been my Baked Zucchini Recipe. Slice a Zucchini lengthwise – cut a boat down the center. Fill the boat with onions top with Parmesan cheese – baked until cooked. It’s SUPER yummy!

IDEA ME! We just recently pulled up all our flooring and switched to stained concrete! I love it! We have a 7, 3, and 1 year old so I really don’t have to worry about what they are spilling or doing to my floors! Everything just wipes up with soap and water!

Making my headboard and instead of buying foam or batting I used an old mattress egg crate we had stuffed in the linen closet. Free and extra plump :)

IDEA ME!!! I like to think I haven’t had my most creative idea yet – I’m always trying to push my creative limits to a higher level with each project I take on so maybe my next project will be my ‘most creative’!

I always forget to make sure that I have the correct ingredients when I cook. One time I was in the middle of making chocolate chip cookies when I realized I was out of vanilla. My creative burst of genius was to use root beer instead (use a little more than the recipe called for, and cut the sugar a little). I got tons of compliments on those cookies and no one guessed that I used root beer instead of vanilla!

It’d be like being a kid in the candy store, what to get, what to get, maybe start working on the new bed frame I want to make, or the kitchen cabinets I need to build, or finish finishing the chair I found at an auction.

And, I was so giddy with anticipation when the new Lowes was being built in my area neighborhood I could hardly stand it. My best friend whet early on opening day and he was the first one through the door (got on TV and everything). I was so excited for him!

Hmmmm, can’t think of an original home DIY idea but…I have been converting cupcake eaters to remove the bottom half of the cupcake and squish it onto the top. Making a cupcake OREO of sorts, it’s a frosting equalizer and keeps away frosting mustaches.

I found a large collection of wooden wine crates on the Free section of craigslist. I had no idea what I would do with them, but it was too good to pass up. Now, 5 years later, I have turned most of them in to shelving and nightstands. And my hubby even used the wood from one to make a platform for the back of a trike. Hootie Hoo!

I get creative all the time and sometimes it can be a bust. Once, my very frugile grandmother handed me a laundry scoop and said “here, make something out of this.” She had been saving them for months because she thought they could be re-purposed somewhere. Finally, I looked at her and said, “grandma, no matter what, I still see a laundry scoop!” Looking back, I should have cut off the handle, painted it white and called it a doll bonnet! ha!

Idea me! Instead of dealing with old linoleum, I ripped it up to the subfloor, used some wood putty, and painted it. I can’t really call it an original idea, but it’s looking like it will turn out well… if I can just manage to finish it :)

I think my most creative Idea so far has been to utilize my industrial ceiling to my advantage. I hung my big heavy mirror from thin stainless cable from the ceiling instead of buying a mounting to attach in directly to the wall.
I painted the walls a soft grey and you can barely soo the cable unless you’re looking for it!
It was a success for me because I am renting!!

    P.S. I Love the desk!

My best idea was actually yours. I built a long curtained “closet” on one side of our master bedroom to store diy supplies, extra bedding, linens, the hubby’s guitars, paper work. It looks much like your built-ins in your previous master bedroom. Love the storage and how it looks almost like a large covered window. So, thanks!

For our wedding favors, I made rose buds with Hershey’s kisses to place at each of the place settings. I stuck the flat end of the kisses against each other and covered with cello wrap. Then I fastened the cell wrap in place with some floral tape. I added a leaf and a “Thank You” tag to each rose. They were very inexpensive to make and matched my color scheme. Our guests loved them!

IDEA ME!!! I can be pretty resourceful at times. Recently I used my hair straightener to iron down a hem, and on a thrift store trip when I needed to measure the width of a lamp shade I put my arm across the top and used my lipstick to mark it. Not to self: get iron, pen, and measuring tape! Ha! :)

I don’t really think of myself as creative, but an idea that just kind of jumped out at me but impressed my friends was putting a cookie sheet on the rack below freezer pizza. That way the crust gets cripsy from the circulating air like the directions suggest but you avoid the possibility of melted cheese in the bottom of the oven.
