Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

I’m in the process of turning an old light fixture into a pot rack. Maybe it will be my most creative idea…maybe not!

    IDEA ME!

My husband and I built a ‘catitat’ for our two cats – it’s a long, tall, chicken-wire enclosed rectangle that attaches to our window and has steps down to the ground so our indoor kitties can safely enjoy the great outdoors.

We put an inexpensive shelving unit in our coat closet that holds a charging station for all of our phone/ipod chargers, shallow bowls for keys and change, baskets for shoes and bookbags, and a narrow letter basket for mail. What a relief it is to have all of these “gotta have a place for it” things right by the door!

    IDEA ME!

I recently created a set of cafe curtains and a valence using a single curtain. When I looked at prices for cafe curtains for my bathroom, they were all coming up at a minimum of $15. One day at Target, I noticed they sold inexpensive translucent white curtains for about $7 each. I realized that I could buy just one curtain and cut it to the dimensions I wanted. I sewed on a bit of beaded trim I had, and voila! Unique curtains for $7.

It’s difficult for me to think of my most creative idea. I do love that amazing feeling that washes over you when you have an idea that solves a problem– be it where to hang a painting for maximum impact or how to store your mixing bowls so they all fit. The best feeling!

My best idea in our current apartment was putting a storage unit INSIDE the coat closet – the perfect little console area for shoes, keys, and all of the other things that no longer clutter the floor and/or kitchen counter :)

IDEA ME! I’m not sure if its the most creative, but its one of my favorite projects so I’ll mention it :) I made home made candles and then attached fall leaves in the last layer. As you burn them down, the leaves are all illuminated and look so pretty! I always have them out for thanksgiving.

Pinterest has really inspired me to be more creative. I recently made a photo with lyrics from our first dance song and a picture of us at our wedding. Total cost $0 :) I stumbled on a Photoshop 4.0 at a garage sale for $4. It’s an old version, but works great!

    IDEA ME! :)

My most creative times, in general, are when I’m in the kitchen. My husband always says that if he really likes a meal we have, he should thoroughly enjoy it, because it’s unlikely we’ll have it again–I’m off making something new most nights. Some people would find that exhausting, I know, but I find it very fulfilling.

I’m pretty proud of my curtain solution for the transom next to our front door. The frame is that non-wood, non-metal stuff, so magnetic curtain rods wouldn’t work, nor would a traditional screw-it-in-and-done rod. I bought a couple “brushed nickel” finish (to match our door hardware) command hooks, cut down an old curtain rod to size, and just set it on top of them, et voila! It’s cheaper and better looking than the store-bought solutions that wouldn’t work in the first place!

I think my favorite idea was more a find at a garage sale and what I decided to do with it. I found an OLD large cabinet that needed the bottom and one side replaced to even function. I paid $10 for it and it was the best money ever spent. I replaced the bottom and side and it now sits in my office holding ALL of my craft and business items. My office is also our guest room so the organization the cabinet gives me is the best thing ever!

Idea me! One that I liked recently is that I took all the random glass jars around our kitchen (from buying pesto, tomato sauce, etc), soaked the labels off and spray painted the lids ORB (yes you have addicted me, Sherry!!). I love how the unified color of the lids sets off the cool quirky different glass parts of the jars. Who knew so many jars actually had cool markings under their labels?!

IDEA ME!! I’ve found a new love for drinks. I hate using ice cubes because the drink gets too watered down. I started freezer my drink (sweet tea, sprite, coke, juice etc) into ice cube trays. Then when I make a drink I can use their respective ice cubes. no more watered down drinks :-)
