Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

IDEA ME! I think the best idea I’ve had was to have a small, intimate outdoor wedding that I paid for IN CASH!

    Idea me!

I created an entire story / adventure for a child’s birthday, complete with capes for costumes, a cake being stolen by an evil magician and a treasure map! The parents played the characters, and to this day, all the kids at the birthday party STILL talk about how fun Michaela’s birthday party was.

WE made a desk out of Ikea parts, a bit of an Ikea hack, and it works wonderfully! Looks good too.

    IDEA ME!

My most creative idea as of late (maybe not all time, but I have a fried mommy brain these days) was transforming the Ikea LATT kids’ table into a fun painted, doodled space for my daughter complete with chalkboard painted top and chairs (you can see it on my blog if you’re interested). Unfinished wood furniture always gets the wheels a’turnin’!

    IDEA ME!

I wanted a mirror above my now 4.5 month old baby’s changing table. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a giant mirror, so I bought 6 cheapie mirrors for $5 a piece and arranged them in a cute way. The mirror frames and the reflection mesmerize my little man and I couldn’t be happier with my inexpensive solution!

I am definetely not a craft person, but have come up with a plan for a closet in some unused space in our basement den. It will house many many items from textiles to board games behind closed closet doors. So excited to get started and this Lowe’s card would be of great assistance! :)

IDEA ME! When I worked at a very upscale restaurant, I’d ask the bartender to save me empty cool liquor bottles. Some have some beatiful shapes and have cool designs in the glass. I peeled off the label with goo gone and use them for decoration, vases, and even to hold my dish soap and olive oil.

I usually try to find creative ways to repurpose old things or make new for cheap, but I guess my most recent creation was to take a single curtain panel from world market and turn it into two roman shades for my kitchen.

My most creative idea was Halloween 2009. Made costumes for my friend and I. I’m Asian and dressed up as a bottle of Sriracha hot sauce, while my friend who is Mexican, dressed up as a bottle of Tapatio hot sauce. All night long, people wanted to take pictures of us and told us which hot sauce they liked more. I think Sriracha won out.

“Idea me!” My best idea or “lightbulb moment” was when I finally realized that my husband was much better than I was at picking up a room. And I was much better at the deep cleaning. Once we figured that out, our housekeeping has gone much smoother.

    IDEA ME!

My most creative idea decor-wise is probably the DIY canopy for my bed that I made back in my apartment-days when painting/hanging heavy things was strictly forbidden. I managed to make a canopy by hanging a series of dowel rods from plant hooks screwed into the ceiling via fishing wire and draping a fancy-schmancy blanket over the rods. It actually looked nice (and not rigged) and won the approval of both my skeptical husband and my judgmental interior designer sister!

IDEA ME! My most creative solution occurred when trying to figure out whether to make our 4th bedroom a playroom or a 2nd guest bedroom. Our solution? A modern take on a murphy bed integrated into some fun shelving. When it’s flipped up it serves as a giant chalkboard canvas for the little one.

We had a narrow shoe cubby on one of our walls that just looked horrible, our shoes were crammed in there out in the open for all to see. We turned it into a “gun closet”, where my husband could store a few of his guns and ammo. It had drawers that locked so safety wasn’t an issue. To cover that opening up, we hung a framed mirror on a hinge (so it acted as a door) and had a heavy duty spring magnet that kept it closed. It looked great and no one ever suspected that it was more than just a mirror!

We had this odd little nook in our dining room we couldn’t figure out what to do with and finally decided to hang a hook on both of the inside walls of it and put a rattan tray/basket at the bottom and we use it to hang the girls’ backpacks and to put their shoes in. Works great.
