Fab Freebie: Lowe-ded With Ideas

***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***

Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!

Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.

Lowes Creative Ideas

  • PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
  • BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
  • PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

Idea me. I can’t think of my most creative idea. It’s lunchtime, all I know is that I’m hungry – Ooh, most creative idea – I took my mom’s recipe for apple pie and transferred it to make a peach pie – freakin’ delish.

My most creative idea may not be the most creative at all, but I started a little putting a bookcase on top of your dresser trend in college. I actually still use it on a smaller scale.

IDEA ME! (and hootie hoo!!) :)

Probably the most impactful “creative idea ever” was antiquing and hanging a solid wood exterior door (complete with its handle hardware) horizontally as artwork over our basement stairs. We needed something neutral enough to be seasonless and timeless, but large enough to make a statement (that we could live with for years if necessary – it’s HARD to hang stuff there)! My first idea was old shutters but was having trouble finding them and came across a geometrically interesting door on Craigslist.

Latest creative idea- keeping my spices in a drawer and writing on top of them what they are. I dont have a spice rack, so this lets me pull out the drawer and see everything easily.

Some of my most creative ideas came while we were planning our wedding. We did a ton of DIY including making coasters for favors, making our centerpieces, writing our own ceremony and making the boutonnieres for the guys.

    IDEA ME!

I didn’t have an idea so much as a moment of home handiness fabulousity. I was living in a Craftsman bungalow at the time with an awesomely kitchy blue tile 50s bathroom. At some point, the porcelain, wall grouted toilet paper holder had been knocked off. My mom found a replacement at a junk shop and not be daunted, I bought a tile chisel and some tile grout, and handily knocked out the remains of the old holder and grouted in the new. I didn’t even crack a tile. Go me! :-)

IDEA ME! This is a tough one. Since becoming a mom I have definitely become more creative. I guess painting ladybug pictures in her nursery has to be my favorite. I didn’t want to spen alot of money on artwork and wanted something personalized, so me not being an artist bought half priced canvases and went for it. They turned out very cute. But I might be working on my best idea yet. I just finished painting my niece’s old bedroom furniture white for my daughter’s big girl room. Now I’m just trying to decide on some cute personal touch to it like a stencil or pink chalkboard paint on the sides of the dresser or something. Still thinking… So I could really use the Lowe’s gift card;)

IDEA ME! I bought an old coffee table off craigslist… a small table area flanked by cushions on either side that featured an old-west motif… refinished the table part, re-covered the cushions using a no-sew method. Bam… outdoor coffee table with extra seating for my patio.

Perhaps not my best or cleverest idea, but what comes to mind: In our tiny Chicago apartment, we replaced one of our dressers with a hanging shoe organizer in the closet. Socks, t-shirts, scarves…when they are rolled up it even looks nice enough to leave the door open.

An idea I’m still happy with 15 years later was hanging a wicker child’s bike seat that I got in China on my dining room wall, complete with a photograph of a bike with the same seat in use. My 17-y-o tells me it’s the best decorated corner in our house.

    IDEA ME

My boyfriend and I recently came up with an easy dinner recipe that’s a fun spin on grilled cheese. We seasoned the outside of the bread slices with garlic powder and a little dried basil along with the normal butter. Then along with mozzarella cheese we put pepperoni and crumbled sausage (already cooked) in the center of the sandwich. We’re also looking forward to trying spinach and tomato slices. We eat them dipped in our favorite pizza sauce. They’ve been a great alternative to frozen pizza and go great with a salad.

Idea Me! My most creative idea recently was to use decorative Indian pillowcases (throw pillows, not sleeping pillows) as wall hangings. It’s like 5 mini tapestries – I bought them for a very reasonable price in the Little India district of Chicago and instead of putting the pillows in them, I used them to brighten up the white walls in my apartment!

I just got this idead this weekend but haven’t put it into function yet. But maybe painting or using an old cardboard container from pack of 12 sodas and use it to keep all the plastic bags that I use from buying groceries. It has probably already been done before so if anybody has any tips, would be greatly appreciated. And yeah, it’s not very green but I’m starting to be greener. Baby steps right?

The most creative idea was actually “stolen” from an organization blog. I have two small 3m clips on the inside of the door under my sink. I use these to clip my rubber gloves that I use to wash the dishes. 2 reasons: they can drip-dry out of sight, and the boyfriend HATES touching them, so now he doesn’t have to!
